    Default Superman Returns

Sep 6th, 2005 10:44 AM Edit Profile Print Topic Search Topic
A bit early to discuss, but there's another Superman movie on the horizon...due out June 30, 2006.

Directed by X-Men helmsman Bryan Singer (Brett Ratner of 'Rush Hour' fame will be taking over 'X3'), with Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, Frank Langella as Perry White, and even some recycled footage of Marlon Brando as Jor-El! As with the original, they went with an unknown for Superman, opting for soap actor Brandon Routh.

The plot entails a return to earth by Superman after a five-year sabbatical, and an attempt to patch things up with Lois while thwarting the ongoing world-domination schemes of Luthor. Lois has moved on, and she even has a kid, though the father's identity is undisclosed (my guess is that it's Luthor).

I'm a bit trepidatious about this one. Singer has earned a bid of confidence for what he did with the X-Men movies, but unlike X-Men (no movie beforehand), and Chris Nolan's Batman Begins (awful movies beforehand, right from the beginning), the first two Superman flicks were the high water mark from the get-go. But I'll give Singer the benefit of the doubt, as I thought the first X-Men movie was going to be an absolute fiasco, and I ended up liking it quite a bit. Anyway, here's a link to the teaser.

    http://www.supermanimagery.com/SRmov...er_Trailer.mov

EDIT: The 'teaser' is apparently a fan-made one, but with footage from the film taken from the various video blogs of the continuing production.

I think Singer deserves a bit more credit than that. But I do think that the new Superman looks like the Max Fisher character from 'Rushmore'.

yeah i mean singer did Usual Suspects! This will be his 2nd film with Kevin Spacey! I can't wait for it! Will it be better than Mario Puzo's Superman and Superman II? Of course not- but still...

and is it just me or does the color of his new uniform seem kinda "dark"- like how it looked in Superman III?

Regardless- i'm looking forward to June.

Yes, there's been quite a stir in the fanboy community over the uniform...darkness, small raised insignia, etc.. I don't mind that as much as the sheen on the cape looks kinda' latex-y to me, which I hate in general. It looks so rubbery in that pic that you can almost smell it. You can tell it's a fan trailer because the pedestrian text against the space bkgd, as well as the shoddy sound and music edit.

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, everything on that costume has a sort of kevlar weave texture to it. Maybe it will actually be processed to be brighter once the film is done.

By the way....the entire film is being shot in HD. Brand new camera systems that supposedly simulate film better than the previous Sony 24P's and such.

WTF! That Superman suit Blows Chunks. I hope this movie is good. Christopher Reeve is a tough act to follow as Superman. I'm with Mantis, that dude from Smallville would probably be better for this part.

A very BAD idea and I only want to know one thing...why?

That guy playing Superman looks like the type that would be going after Larry Lane, not Lois Lane.

    *bump*

The early screenings of the movie in Los Angeles have been completed and some early reviews are starting to creep out all over the net. All positive.

    Good news.

I read a few early reviews. VERY positive! All the ones I read said Singer knocked it out of the park bigtime!

I saw a trailer on YouTube that was a lot more revealing of the story. I must admit I really like the idea of Spacey playing Lex Luthor. I still think the dude playing Superman is way to "pretty" but Ill still give it a shot. I have high hopes for it.
