    Default AH! 4000 CDP....Real Hot !

I just went to take the power cord off of a piece of gear in my office when I noticed the Ah! was hot to the touch...

It`s plugged in , but hasn`t been powered on for a couple of days...

any ideas what`s going on ?

I`m gonna open her up to take a look , but should there be power going into and through the unit if it`s not turned on..?

    WTF..?

okay, I just put in the brand new (matched)gold pin EI`s that jesse suggested I try, into my ELP, and flipped the switch...they glowed bright orange for a couple of seconds,at the bottom of the tube, like they were gonna blow, then settled down to normal...

is this normal for brand new tubes..?

Or are the audio gods pissed at me too...

I took the cover off the Ah!, and the bunch of little blue caps were all hot....tubes seemed okay...

What should I look for...besides a big bottle of scotch...?

You should look for decent NOS tubes, and throw that Yugo **** in the ash can. That glowing is NOT normal. You have a tube, or ELP issue, period. Roll something else - see what happens.

You posted the other day about putting 7308's in your Jolida - which uses a 12ax7 variant, not 6DJ8 - I'm beginning to get concerned you aren't using the right tubes in your gear.

Ima hook Beardog up in less than a week. You need to pm/email me with what you are running, and where - so I can bring you what you need. Then, I can pour you a few shots and take advantage of you.

    Cheers,
    Russ (3 to go)

    Love you too bro... :D

The Ah! came with 7308`s (Siemens)..
I have AD825, and OPA627 chips for it also...If I remember correctly I removed them to install the board..( I also have four other stock chips)

I just opened the Jolida , and found that the Ei`s that came with it, along with the ECC83S (JJ Electronics..made in Slovak Republic), are still in thier boxes, and the tubes that are in the cdp say Jolida on them...that would explain the "thin" sound..

I know have two new pairs of the Ei`s (12AX7EG)

I may just pack all my tubes in a box and bring them with.. :o

I `m really looking forward to shacking your hand and getting some outstanding tubes for the Jolida...

Why would the caps get hot if the unit was just plugged in and not turned on..?

It's not unusual for a new tube to "flash" when first powered up, it'll then settle down just like you described. If they "flash" every time you power up, then you do have a problem.

The stock Chinese tubes are crap, stick the Ei's in there.....after 50 hours or so, see what you think then.

Not sure what's going on with the Ah!

    I already notice a difference..! :)
I have matched pairs in the dodd and the Jolida....gold pin as you suggested

The Ah! seems to have stopped whatever it was doing.
I have it hooked up to a different power source now...maybe the power strip wasn`t grounded properly..?

    I love my Ah!
    I don`t want it to AH!splode.. :p

Just a couple more days jess...
