Video Conversion - S-Video to Component Video

I have a question that's probably been answered a thousand times and may sound stupid. I have just purchased a receiver with Video Conversion (S-Video to Component Video). This is the first receiver I have owned with this capability. It is the Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi.

Does this mean I can use S-Video cable instead of Component Video and get the same result or should I just use component video for a better result??

hmmm ok well not sure since I don't have it, but I believe it won't give you the same result, just so that you can hook up all the cables through your receiver and only need component out for video to your monitor.

I have a receiver with the same function and I honestly can see a diff with the upconversion of S-Video vs a direct component connection.

Go component.

You will not lose quality but will not gain it either.

As said, it just allows you to have one component video connection to your tv and hook up s video,composite and component to the receiver. All video will pass out the monitor out component.
You should use component video everywhere possible.
