MMC6500 in Closed box...

hey guys, what do you think abt this.....

i buy a pair of door panels and will modify it with fiber glass (to put the mmc6500 into it)... im thinking abt do an big modification in the panel, and was thinking create something like an fiber glass box for the mmcs what do you think? will sound worst? better? the same?

i thinked it because when the original panels when i turn the vol too high, i really ear a lot of noise from the panel and it happend because the air (from the back of the speakres) go trough the door and the panel and it produce vibrations and noise....

Dynamat and lots of it. Plaster that stuff all over your door panels, inside and out and then apply a heavy coat to the door skin and thatll take care of virtually all the panel vibrations. Then get you one of these and slap it on the inside panel behind the speaker.

Those speakers are designed to work in an infinite baffle (free air) so you dont need an enclosure. Plus, an enclosure would likely make more bass and vibrate those panels more.

Get the Dynamat and use as much as you can afford and itll cure those vibrations.

Don't worry 'bout your English, man; I know just what you're trying to say. ;)

I would say don't do it. Car speakers are designed to work (I think I'm gonna say this right...I hope so) in an infinite baffle type environment. I.E. they're not meant to be boxed in. As for addressing your noise/vibration problems, I'd look at some dynamat.

I actually think it did. I wont swear to it cause ya know how psychoaccoustics can be but it does seem to cut down on the resonance issues I had in my doors. By using one behind each speaker the vibrating of the door panels were noticeably reduced.

Is it the kind of orangey, fiberglass insulation?

Does it look like A or B? If I do this right, A will be the orangey insulation I was talking about, and B is tar paper. We put down tar paper in our sunroom under the carpet.

Where on the roof do they use it? On top under the shingles or inside hanging from the roof?

its used as insulator for water...

Hmm. It looks like tar paper. Did you apply it with a torch? :D

Not sure what that is. What language is that in? I used babel fish and tried every language, but couldn't get it to work.

is strange that dont know what is it, this looks like the dynamat, but is used in the roof. and yes is an Tar Paper, i translated "TAR" and its what im talking abt :)

Ah, I see. Well, I would think that tar paper would not have any damping, vibration-reducing, sound-deadening properties. I think it's really only used for insulation against weather and moisture and such.

well it reduce the vibration because add more weight to the door, so have less vibration :D

btw, looks like i need to other the dynamat from USA ¿its insane? :(

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying in that last sentence. However, I imagine that Dynamat would do a better job as it'd be a lot more effective sound insulator.

well, dynamat would solve your problem to a degree, second skin would do a better job, but if you were to fiberglass an enclosure, that would totally remove the backwave, eliminating the problems in one fell swoop... make it rather large, the goal isn't to control the cone like a sub box, but rather to contain the backwave and prevent it from rattling panels and resonating in the door...

well, if he does put an enclosure around the speaker, that would stop the backwave, but unless he uses some sort of gasket where the speaker mounts to the door, will it not still vibrate the thin metal by contact?

Yes it will. An enclosure would decrease the back wave which would decrease a lot of the vibration from the panels but there still will be some as long as that enclosure is mounted to the panels due to the panels not having enough mass.

The only way to stop the vibration with the speaker mounted in the door is to increase the mass of the panels by using Dynamat or something like it.

Ive used peel and seal in my doors, its like that tar stuff u were going to use, but it has a foil layer over the tar. Its not as good as dynamat, but it would help with vibrations. I would suggest u put something over it tho, like a layer of plastic or something just to keep the tar from getting on the speakers, and everywhere else.
