    Default DVD Player Education

    hey guys,

i'm not a video/audio phile, but would love to start somewhere...

I'm in the market for a DVD player that of course has good audio and video quality and as usual has to be for a certain price. So I know i won't get the best...or the ok, but the best I can get for the money is what I'm looking for.

The price cap is 200 dollars and has to be 3-5 disk. Black preferbaly...

Also, i would love to know if there is something such as a starters guide to DVD player buying, because there are 24 bit DAC's for audio and 12 for video and sometimes more or less....I tried judging on this, but it just turns out that even some of the nicest dvd players would have the same DAC as some of the lowers.....then Burr-Brown....faroujidi or what not chips start coming up....

oh well Thanks for any help!

I never understood 3-5 disc DVD players. I get the need to want 200-400 stored DVDs, but does anyone watch just parts of movies? If you need a CD changer, then get a CD changer. Am I missing something here?

Your Pioneer DV-578 is going to be nearly as good as most $200 changers IMO.

well this is gonna be for my dad....

I tried to convince him to get a 1 disk but for music...DVD videos of asian music....which many people might not understand...but asians love their "Paris by Night" and other such concerts and can watch that for a while.

    So thats the answer Dennis.

I know i know....3-5 disk....I'll try some more to get him to get a single disk but for now.... =(

speaking from experience sony 5disc dvd changers are good for the money. They have a good 3/2 progressive scan pulldown system, a decent transport, and good picture quality. Mine does everything from all of the above to even playing SACDS (which of course doesn't really matter anymore).

If you look around you can get them for less than 2Franklins.

    Mistuibishi 52 I think...bought it a few years ago.

I can find out more specifics later...but he isn't the most tech savvy guy...

Anything specific you need to know? It's a rear projection.

is the tv hdtv? if so, is there a dvi or hdmi connection? if so, he may wanna check out up-converting dvd players. brings you closer to high def picture (though nothing beats true hd). i don't know if there are any 3-disc players out there, but my oppo was but $200. again, if not an hdtv, then disregard anything i just mentioned.....i am asian as well, so i have family that loves asian music and karaoke and what not.

it can display HDTV. It is pretty weird. Has 3 components where one can display 720p....and the other two can do 1080i and 480p/i. If i recall correctly. I've heard this is common with mitsubishi's....

The best connection is component. There is no dvi connection only RGB (computer cable connection) but this only displays 640 x 480.

I'll look into refurbs though i would prefer new...I think that is a good option since dvd's are gonna get replaced in a year or two.

I think based off ecost.com I've narrowed it down to 3 choices..

    1. DVM 1815 for $99 refrub

    2. DVM715 - Refurb for 200

    3.DVD-2800 for 200 refurb

Anyone know about these vs. each other?

The 2800 is a couple years old model but was the best of this bunch.

With that said, the 1815 is a huge value. A Faroudja player for under $100 is unheard of.

For the prices, you can't go wrong.
