    Thumbs up New Circuit City

There will be a new CIRCUIT CITY opening up near my house. The store will open in Southaven, MS. This is on the west end of the MS/TN border about 15 minutes from my home in Memphis, TN. Just thought I'd share that info. I will have another spot to hang out and push buttons. :D Are there any CC stores close to you guys? I am currently close to two right now and soon to be three. How lucky can a guy be?

Good for you, within 15 minutes I have Circuit City Best Buy and our local Hifi shop. The "boys in blue" at best buy are getting awful pushy, everytime I go there which isnt much anymore I am told at least 6 times during my visit they are not commission.

C.C. runs some good special closeout sales on their receivers and have a pretty good selection of movies.

Ive been a big CC supporter since the 80's. Back then they had the best installers in town and had all the cool showrooms. Hell, they were the first place to rent movies too. I remember they had em in a room no bigger than 15x15!

They went downhill in their car audio dept a while back but are getting some good gear back in again. The only problem I have with them now is instead of hiring knowledgable sales people at a good wage they have a bunch of 18 year old, staple heads with their pants around their knees working back there. I actually had one tell me not 3 months ago that having one speaker with an extra couple feet of speaker wire would cause a delay in that speaker firing and screw up the soundstage!!!!!

Lets see, the signal would be traveling at 186,000 miles per second so how long would it take to travel that extra 3 feet? Oh about .00000000000000000000000000006 of a nano second? Yeah, that would definitely cause an audible delay!

Still, I like CC and try to give them most of my business.

While it may not actually cause a delay, I always buy my wire in two equal lengths (Or cut it that way) Just one of those imaginary improvments I guess

I've got 3 Circuit City's, no make that 4, within 20 minutes of where I live. I still enjoy going to em from time to time. The salesmen don't hound you as soon as you step in the door, and their listening areas have slowly been improving. Just the other night, they had a Onkyo 702(?) receiver set up exclusively with Polk Monitors and a 72 inch Sony with Sleepy Hollow in the player. It was a pretty awesome experience. Those Monitors are actually pretty good. They are bright, but very detailed. The midrange isn't as defined as the RTi's, the lows were a little on the soft side, but still an enjoyable setup for someone on a budget. When it's come to Best Buy, lol, I try to avoid them like the plague. One minute after walking in the door: "Can I help you find something today?", "Are you looking for anything in particular?", "Let me tell you about our extended service plan", etc.

I never run mine at equal lengths cause its hard to do in a car unless you run them right down the middle of the car which is a pain and usually means taking out the seats and carpet. So my left speaker wire is a good 5' longer than the right. But think about it, that signal is moving at the speed of light which, like I said, is 186,000 per second! Now thats 982,080,000 feet per second. If I figured that right (which I probably didnt) that would be .000000005 of a second (thats 5 billionths of a second) which basically means the extra time it takes to travel an additional 5 feet is virtually immeasurable and definitely inaudible!

I don't like Best Buy, and there is one 3 minutes down the street from my house. I only go there when I absolutely have to. They always make it a point to say they don't get anything on the sales. CC started doing it as well, but I still like the store better. BB sound set-ups for home audio SUCK, and they have a bunch of crappy gear and speakers on display for HT/music demos, and not to mention BLOSE.

    Hey Nadams,
Thanks for the laugh at "the boyz in blue"...lol...lol...

The boys in blue must be instructed to be pushy because anywhere else they would lose customers. They must not care about repeat business customers, which in my mind is the real way to do business.

    Landry,

I stepped into the CC in Southaven last Saturday. Can't say I'm "sold" to CC anymore. Audio setup in there was about as bad(maybe worse) than BB. They seem to be going to a more open, brighter store. I noticed that in one in St. Louis and the new one here. TV's weren't setup very well either. I like a wall of displays, but if I'm going to drop $4000 for a flat panel television, I want to see it at eye level. They had them above my head while I was standing up. The Aquos 1920x1080 was one of the ones above my head as well.

BTW, we still need to do some a/v browsing at Underground Sound and Modern Music.

CC is where I got my whole system from, and I dig this store a lot. We got Underground Sound, Giant TV, and Dilday TV with higher end stuff, but CC is all I need for music, movies, games, and any other type of electronics brick-a-brack.

I am ready Zach. I will be making a major purchase of some sort on the first part of 2006, maybe we can hit it then. I'll keep you posted.
CC has changed quite a bit from the way they used to be, but I still like that store. I have unloaded grand after grand on TVs and gear there over the years, and have no complaints at all. Even the gear and TV in my master bedroom came from CC. The new TV displays must suck pretty bad if they are above eye level. I will check it out this weekend probably. The Winchester Rd. store has them displayed at or below eye level which is good for shopping.

Within 30 minutes of my house or less are 2 Best Buys (maybe 3), 3 Circuit City's, a CompUSA, 2 Tweeters, and Custom Home HiFi (that also does car audio). And about 35 minutes away is Elite Audio & Video, which is a nice high end store.

I find CC's prices on concert dvds are lower than BB's in my area. I like their selection too...

However, for audio, they almost never have it right...their audio rooms are sloppy....

Also, one CC near my house is using an R50 as a door stop!!

(LOL) That must be the ghetto CC. ;)

The CC down the street from me, has the speakers set up pretty good where you can switch the rears with certain fronts and centers, or you can change the recievers and subs to any combo you want. The fact that they feature Monitors right now, has not made me want to rush into the sound room like I used to, but I will be visiting the new store this weekend. There is no demo like an in home demo.

    :D

New stores are good to visit because they have everything set up to the floor plan of the store, in stock, and actually working. In other words, they are trying to make a good impression so everything is neat, clean and hooked up correctly....and staffed appropriately too.

You know I keep telling the guys at the CC across from where I work that they have the front and rear speakers switched around on their RM6900, and they still don't change them. Complete morons. Oh well, I'm the competition, so better for me I guess.

I work @ CC. Our store isn't too bad and we really go above and beyond to get people what they need. But i've been to a few stores where the people come off as pushovers.

CC is a really great place if you aren't looking to get educated. And we do have alot of buttons most of the time... the problem is they don't work. hahahaha

everytime I go to best buy i get told they are not on commission.... i wonder if they train their sales people to do that... that's effing ignorant.

I'm always like... "Are you ****ers for real? DID YOU REALLY JUST SAY THAT?"

The Grand Opening was last night, and I think I will go Saturday to cut back on the crowd some. I am sure that the store was packed last night.

Oh yes...the pushy boys in blue. I am told at least 6 times every visit they are not commission........THEY ARE STILL PUSHY! I say leave me alone and when I need assistance I know how to find someone...employees are everywhere. The most annoying thing to me is a pushy salesperson who will not shut up and follows me around trying to give me a personal tour. Geeez, if they would just make themselves be seen and not heard .....

The most pleasant salespeople I've met were in Denver, they would walk by to say hello or hi or even say it's nice outside today then walk away. Anyway, I quit going to BB until the salespeople stop being so agressive...... :D

The BB here in Chattanooga has pretty good people. They dont have a clue about the items they sale and I could give countless examples, but they only do the intial greeting and after I tell them Im just looking they leave me alone.

i think that just has alot to do with the people working there. my friend was working at CC a few years ago and i remember every time i went there he had the audio room spotless and connected correctly and really made it his business to make sure everything in there was perfect. we went back a few months after he went elsewhere and it was a total mess.

best way to shop at those places is either to go with no intention of buying anything at all or to know exactly what you want to buy...

Next time you get all these people coming up to you asking if you need anything say "Yes, will you please follow me around so all these other salesmen will stop asking me if I need anything". I did it once when I was in a crappy mood and believe it or not the guy followed me around. I was in stitches the whole time. :)
