Default DENON AVR3805 vs DENON AVR3806?

    Hi all,

I’m in the process of upgrading my HT. Looking to get DENON AVR3805. The salesman told me there is a new DENON AVR3806 out. I have auditioned both models (120WPC) and don’t hear any apparent differences in audio.

The AVR3806 is $400.00 CN. more than the AVR3805. The 3806 have the HDMI up conversion, Audyssey MultEQxt Room EQ microphone is included and has better remote.

My question is…………….should I go for the new 3806 or the older model of 3805? Is the HDMI worth the $400.00? Would I be making a mistake of getting the 3805 instead of the new upgraded 3806?

    Thanks for your help/info/opinion.

If you know you are going to need & utilize all of the new features of the 3806 then get it. If not, save yourself a few bucks!

Is the Audyssey MultEQxt Room EQ microphone more precise for system calibration than calibrating with SPL meter from Radio Shack?

Or is the Audyssey MultEQxt Room EQ microphone just some big deal DENON is trying to introduce?

Supposedly the 3806 should win hands down because of the upgraded auto EQ. From all of the praise on AVSForum, its a really great tool and makes a world of difference in sound between the 3805 and 3806.

Gator - if you're not trained well in using EQs, I would definitely consider using this instead.

    bknauss,

I just read some reviews of 3806 on the Internet. All reviews are positive as to new 3806 EQ. Also understand that DENON made upgrade/modification to 3806 amps. Thanks for your help. :)

I haven't used Denon's Auto EQ system, but one on the Parasound Halo processor is similar. It can work to set up a home theater system quite a lot better than just using the hand held SPL meter method because the EQ systems correct for acoustical distance instead of just physical distance, which can be very important for establishing correct timing delay. I found the auto set-up produces much more seamless integration of the speakers in my system. My room is mostly open on one side and enclosed on the other though, so the acoustics are unusual. I don't know if the system would be as effective in a regular rectangular room where the acoustics are better controlled though.

I'd get the 3806 rather than the 3805.

Default acoustical distance instead of just physical distance

    Emlyn,

Your post makes a lot of sense. I have never looked at 3806 EQ from your perspective.

My family room is also open concept on one side. Acoustical distance instead of just physical distance on the 3806 EQ will probably do a better job on my system calibration.

The new 3806 allow distance calibration of 0.5’ (6”) increments (I think) and combined with acoustic correction of 3806 EQ would be definitely more accurate than hand held SPL. I think you are right in going with 3806. Thanks for your help.

Go with the New Denon avr3806. If 400.00 stands between you and owning it, then go with the avr3805 and know you could have done better.

Thanks guys for all your info. I have decided to go with the new 3806. Just wondering how my RTi8's and CSi5 will sound with this new Denon 3806? Right now I'm using Sony STR DE897. They tell me it will be day and night difference.

It will be a difference, day and night? I might not say so, a def. improvement ? YES. For day and night adding a sep amp, would seem to make that difference. So I hear.

But either way, you are headed in the right direction.

my guess is that the EQ was not activated or set up therefore you cannot hear anything different between the two. HDMI... depends if you plan on using it. I'll probably upgrade my 3805 to a 3806.
