Default Some Pics of new SRS-2.3's

A couple of pics of my new SRS-2.3's that I picked up this week. I have them temporarily in the garage There are about 10 feet apart, 8 feet distance from either side wall and 4" from the back wall. Sounstage is enormous. Played some tunes from the SDA sticky list, sounded great! Or as good as a garage will allow!!

Shame! I had my SRS 2's in the garage when I stripped the side panels off. I brought them in to glue em back on.

Very nice Carl! If they were Oak, I'd arm wrestle you for them. :D Congrats on aquiring a nice pair of speakers. Njoy!

I'd lose the arm wrestling battle. ;) The tweeters in these things got to go! I'm ordering crossover parts and new tweeters ASAP. Then I'll bring them into the family room. Besides, moving these things is no easy task! :D

Duh, in that first pic they looked like Walnut caps. My mistake. I'm handicapped, partially color blind.

Nice going Carl, did you get the SDA cable with them? Once in da house, you may want to use heavier speaker wires. those ain't going to cut it.

    cheers, al

Hi Danger Boy! Yes I got the interconnecting cable with them. I also got a Polk non-common ground interconnecting cable also. I've read the thread from DarqueKnight about the cable upgrade he did. Do you have any experience with a larger guage wire?

Seems like the pics I've seen of those have shown them flip-flopped, with four drivers on the inside. Or maybe I've got it wrong. Nice speakers, wish I had 'em.

Hmmm....good point; I would have thought that the SDA drivers were two, and the stereo drivers were four??? If this is right, and if I am right thinking that the SDA drivers always go in the outside, then you have the right speaker in the left and the left speaker in the right.....

Good reading to 2.3 owners, http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29577
Raife has a very good write up on how the 2.3 dimension array speakers are used.

    Question

Interesting read. I had the same reaction when I saw them hooked up. But when I looked at the labels AND serial numbers on the back. The speakers were setup correctly. I assumed the upper and lower deep bass drivers were placed in this configuration for a wider bass dispersion. It's interesting that they "shift" from stereo to dimensional array speakers with the frequency. Fascinating design. I wonder if it's really working that way, and did the Polk designers perform some listening tests and what did they hear?

I don't have any experience with heavier SDA cable designs.. i was mostly talking about your speaker wires.. they looked a tad big on the light side..

    How you loving those SDA's?

    Thumbs up Temporary Wires

Hi Dangerboy! The 16 guage wires that I have hooked up in the photo are only temporary. I use 12 guage wire on my fronts. I may bi-wire the 2.3's with the 12 guage, never done that before. I use standard 12 guage multi strand Cu wire from Lowe's.

I'm going to move the 2.3's to my friends house for a crossover upgrade once I get new tweeters and the crossover components (Sonicaps and Mills). I expect to do this within the next two weeks.

The 2.3's have a harsh high end due to those tweeters. I upgraded my SDA-2s in June, performed a crossover upgrade and they sound great. I forgot how harsh those metal tweeters are. The sound in the garage is pretty boomy (lousy) but the soundstage is enormous. Can't wait to upgrade these and get them into the family room.

Hi Carl, this is a tip that I learned from the senior members - replace the filmsy jumpers (they are 16ga) with some quality cable. After I replaced them with some 10ga Belden speaker wire, I no longer biwire the 2.3. Give it a try!!
