Because the tweeters are only working with the stereo side. They are the same with tweeters disconnected.

so...the sda drivers handle higher frequencies as well?
There has been many threads posted on this question. I have a pair of 1A's and it is less audible on the checks on the Dimensional drivers when doing the balance test, and from what I can tell on the schematic, they have two dimensional drivers and one dimensional tweeter, and two stereo drivers and 1 stereo tweet.

the 2b's have 1 tweeter
Nope... It's not necessary to cancel interaural crosstalk in the upper frequencies. 1st generation SDA's (1's, 2's and CRS's) had SDA tweeters, but they were dropped from subsequent models.Originally Posted by sda2mike
As for the original question, I've always attributed the reduced apparent spl of the SDA MW's to the cancelation that's occurring.

And on the relative size questions... while the stereo and SDA MW's are the same size, they are often not the same part number. And to add to the confusion some SDA models have fewer SDA MW's, e.g, the 2.3's and 3.1.

Tour- the SDA2's (originals) also have an uneven number, two stereo drivers to one SDA driver. As far as I know, they used the same part number on all of them in that speaker.
Ludicrous gibs!
That is my take on the drivers on the SDA-2 speakers. They used ALL the same drivers.

Yup... the original 2's used 3 MW6501's.

They have to be the same size for the interaural crosstalk cancelation to work properly.why are sda drivers as large as the mid bass drivers?

Jesse,
I'm guessing that choice is response characteristic driven, i.e., FR and cone dynamics, rather than radiating area. Makes me wonder why different drivers were used in combination in the last generations...![]()

Since the thread is going this direction, can anyone tell me what the differences are in the MW65XX series drivers? They seem to all have about the same appearance to me. Thanks!

Different drivers, different Q's. However, the drivers still need to have the same radiating area.
