Denon AVR-3806

I am looking getting rid of my outlaw 990 and getting one of these. I think my main bottleneck in my system is getting a flat responce out of my limited speaker placement options, and think this would help correct it. anyone have a chance to demo one out? Also anyone have any idea if outlaw is ever going to upgrade their 990 with room eq?

If you end up doing it, I would be interested to hear your impressions of the 3806 vs. the 990. (and maybe interested in your 990... ) With that being said, room eq's are not neccesarily a good thing. When you set them up, they may be fine, but the auto eq's will often boost certain frequencies (sometimes by alot) to flatten the curve and can cause your amp to clip and speakers to blow at what seems to be normal listening levels.

Room eq's can be good, but you are much safer working with speaker placement and room treatments rather than an electronic substitute....

yea, i have thought about that, but i don't think my amp would clip seeing as how it has a huge power reserve, but of course if my speakers do end up blowing, I always have my polk warranty to fall back on. If you are interested in the 990, i might be looking into selling it at the beginning of the year. I am still at least going to wait and see if their are any anouncements about hdmi 1.3 in january, but my guess is that im going to have to wait a year or two for that.

I got the new Denon AVR 3806 and I love mine. It is quite a step up from my old Sony ES! I got mine on a 15% off sale from Crutchfiled, and with NO shipping charges, I felt it was money very well spent. I have a room that also was somewhat limited in my speaker location options, and the auto EQ built into this AVR did wonders for my HT. Even if you want to add additional amps in the future, you have a VERY solid foundation to build from. My first Denon, but not my last.

I have been watching Crutchfield very closely, but have not seen any sales on the brand new 3806?? You do get 10% if purchased with another item. Are you sure you did not get the 3805? I did get a corporate discount because we own a business, but have not seen the 3806 at 15% off, and I visit their website daily.

You are correct about the 3805 being what has the sale prices right now, and I almost ordered one of them instead. The 10% off also applies to multiple purchases of HT equipment (with certain exceptions). But mine is in fact a 3806, and I did get it and several other things at 15% off. I received a sale flyer in the mail from Crutchfield right after Thanksgiving, it had a promotional code included for ONE time use only, and expired on Dec. 19th. There were a few items you could not use it on, but most everything else it applied to. I placed my order, gave them the code, and their computers deducted the 15% from the order total, saved quite a bit. I hate it was for one time use only, but still, it swung me to go ahead and spend a bit more and get the 3806.

limashaynut, were you able to experiment much with the different mic locations? how many different locations did you use? i am just wondering how it sounds when you use multiple mic locations instead of just one "sweet spot"

I followed the enclosed directions for auto eq setup, and it worked great, it even showed down to the inch, how far apart my speakers were located! My home theater has a large wrap around couch, and two chairs for seating locations. I took a total of 6 readings, 4 from the couch, and two from the chairs. The mike was placed on a camera tripod, with the mike at ear level. The one thing to watch out for is that the room/house is as quite as possible (I sent the kids out with my wife to the store lol). The proof of how well it worked is to switch off the EQ settings to compare it with the 'flat' settings of the 3806, big difference!
