    Default Cambridge Audio goes universal

Looks like Cambridge Audio is readying a new DVD89 to be delivered next month. I can't find any info on CA's official site, but some foreign audio dealers are listing it.

It's a market segment that requires little modification, but additional licensing...a manufacturer would be silly for not launching a Uni-Product.

Cambridge Audio is an excellent brandname.

Just several months ago, a Cambridge Audio rep stated on the company's forum that the company has no plans for a uni player because of the format's possible demise. That's why this new machine is rather surprising.

Frankly, I am kind of shocked that the new Cambridge Audio DVD-87 universal player is now available in the US for only $269.00.

SOLID. AA is pushing that price as well....CA must be wanting to launch this heavily.

    I really like their gear.

Regarding DVD-V and SACD playback would this thing wipe the floor with my sony 685 changer and more importantly how would this thing compare (DACS) with an older sony es single disc model?

I might have just found a way to increase my shelf space.

...and how would this compare with the 540C with regards to redbook CD playback? According to the price, I assume it wouldn't be nearly as good...but how much 'not as good'? I think someone needs to buy it and report back...go aaharvel! :p

I was saving for their network player that has a 160Gb HD, but I might be the one who grabs this and has the menial and unenviable task of listening to it for hours and bragging about how good it sounds. I think this has the Crystal DAC's . . . .
