    Default voltage question

Hey, I have a question about the voltage in my house. We live in a very old farmhouse with a mix of new service and old service to the house. The farm itself is in the process of getting new updated service and we will then finish replacing the older service in the house. Maybe to be a little clearer, this place is a mixture of old, new, half-assed and the rest was put in by electricians working on Sundays for beer. :o

My surge protecor tells me that I am running anywhere between 111 and 115 volts. Occasionaly it will go 1 number below or above but pretty much in that range. Is this a problem? Are my electronics in trouble?

All of my HT gear is running off new 20 amp circuit breakers that we had put in to run the air conditioners.

    Any opinions welcome. thanks kevin

Speaking from a utility point of view, you should have 120/240VAC +/- 5% at your service entrance from the pole or padmounted transformer. If it is worse than that, definitely call your local power company and put in a voltage complaint, especially if you are adding a bunch og A/C load...

Might want to check those outlets with a good volt meter, and compare those readings to your surge protector, May be a gauge calibration problem. I'd check outlets on a different circuit as well, and if you are comfortable with working around electricity, measure from the pannel as well, but only if you're real comfortable and know what your touching. Otherwise we'll be buying your stuff on E-bay from your next of kin. If the surge protector is reading correctly, I-SIG is right, get the power company out there ASAP. Low voltage, bad for everything - High voltage, bad for everything. While you are checking plugs you may want to invest in (if you don't already have one) one of those three prong outlet checkers that indicate if the outlets are wired properly (polarity, ground, etc.) any big box store, or good hardware store will have em. Good luck!

    Thanks I's,

I have an electrician coming out soon. I know it used to run around 118 volts. So maybe there is a new problem. Thanks for your replies. kevin :)
