Hi,
It's a longshot, as I have learned, but I'm looking for an SL-1000 Peerless (I think) tweeter to bring my left 1982 Polk 7B speaker back to life. It's the black-domed one. I also posted in the Flea Market to be thorough.
Thanks,
Paul

Welcome to the forum!
While the Polk SL1000 and Peerless tweeters were both used interchangeably in several vintage Polk models, they are not one in the same. The Polk part number used for the Peerless in many Polk models was HF1000 -- but, I can't verify that this is the part number Peerless used for the tweeter.
Someone recently posted a link to a supplier in Australia that appeared to still have the Peerless in stock. Using the search function might find it, I did not bookmark it. Good luck!
BTW - the black domed one is the Peerless, not the Polk SL1000. It has a distinctive dimple in the center of the dome.

OK, I've been set straight. What I am trying to replace is the Peerless, not the SL 1000. Thanks for the info.

Anyone know any more about this?
Paul
Here you go. A search for "Australia" brought it right up. The tweeters shown don't have the famous dimple, so don't know if they're an exact match.

That's a nasty 10dB spike at 1000Hz. Maybe the dimple helps with that. If it were me, I'd get the new silk domes from Polk. You will have to enlarge the opening a little bit, but well worth the effort, IMO.

Which tweeter are you referring to? Item number? Do you know how much they cost from Polk and is all you have to do is enlarge the opening and hook them up and that's it for the Monitor 7s.??Originally Posted by F1nut

Yes, he wants the peerless.
I don't think it's that simple for everyone to enlargen the opening for the replacement tweeters. Requires some skill I would imagine.

Polk has a replacement tweeter, RD0194-1. The cost is $48.00 to Club members. Yes to the rest of your question. A Dremel tool should do the trick.Originally Posted by mlhm5

Dangerboy,
Yes, that's the one. I don't see the dimple in the photo but I can't tell if it's actually there or not. Maybe the photo didn't pick it up.
It looks like my choices are the one Australian replacement for 90 bucks or the two new Polk tweeters for about the same price, but then I'll have to mess with routers and drills.
Has anyone heard these Australian replacements and compared them with the original Peerless tweeters?
Thanks, everyone, for your information. This board is a nice resource.

or...you could buy these....

He's going to take the one I offered him in the other thread - I just got a pm from him.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!
It's not a dimple, it's a hole. Polk used the tip of a soldering iron to make the hole.Originally Posted by sanjosepolk
