Default 2 amps on a 1 pre out head unit?

I just found out that I have another obstacle in my way of completing my system... Is there anyway possible to have an amp with subwoofers and an amp with speakers both hooked up to the headunit if the headunit only has 1 pair of preouts?

Sure get some splitters from radioshack and you'll be all set, I think it will then only give half the voltage to each amp though, so remember that when setting gains.

If the amplifiers have pass throughs you can also use those to pass the signal to the other amp.

The only thing about the y cable is it's going to kill your signal. Lets just assume you have a 2 volt signal coming from headunit with the y cable. Thats going to split the signal only giving you 1 volt per amp.

Hence the pass-through option on the amp would be much more desirable, no?

Or just upgrade to a better head unit. That would be the best option, although it may not be the most cost effective.

That was my first thought, as well. And, even if it isn't the most cost-effective solution now, it will probably end up being, as you won't have a y-adapter and power-line driver thingamabob-dohicky-whatchamacallit-device-tool-gadget (I'm good with names :D) laying around unused when you do upgrade your HU. And you will, if you ever get into car audio.

Most amps have a pass-through for a second amp... don't they?

wow it's been so long since i've checked the forums.. so if my subwoofers are already underpowered slightly, would using a y splitter make it worse and lose even more power?

If you set your gains correctly it should not be an issue.

Some amp passthroughs are just like splitters to watch out for that.
