    Default spl meter help ?

so i've used the test tones and an spl to flatten my speaks .. i am still waiting for a avia disc so i had to use the test tones .. i know i have some more tinkering to do but i have to say what a huge difference it made.. i had a few friends over last night to watch master and commander and they all noticed a huge difference in sound.. i have known that my ht could sound better but i just didn't know how until i found you guys. i have read numerous posts on how to use an spl and as i said i know i can get better results with a test disc but for now .. what is the best way to calibrate? i understand that i should be setting the spl to "slow" and" c" .. i am unclear though as to what volume i should be at when going through the test tones. i have read here to set the master volume at zero when usung the test tones is this correct?

Where did you end up getting the meter from?

Glad to see things worked out well with it.

source aka radio shack was out of stock. so i tried calling some of the local music stores and ended up finding one. i used the spl a second time after i read the link from Frank Z . i can't believe what a difference it made. my ht sounded better when i did the first calibration incorrectly. but after i followed the instructions on the link ..i heard things i have never heard before. i must have watched my favorite scenes from about 20 dvds over and over again yesterday with my brother. can't wait to hear after the avia test disc today.

used the avia disc yesterday .. holy s@#$ . i am now sitting here wondering why more people don't do this .. not one person i know realizes this should be done with their home theatre (except my friend with a denon but he uses the mic) .. when i look through my manual for the receiver it tells me i should use the test tones to get the speakers " level" but that hardly produces the results that the spl and the calibration disc provides... any thoughts on why this isn't more commonly known about? .. i have been saving for a year for a new reciever but after this i realized i didn't actually NEED one now i just want it .LOL .
