Not really, I have never been able to go into a CC or Best Buy and negotiate a deal on AV gear, however, I always can negotiate a deal at tweeter. It is not uncommon at all to get a huge discount if you purchase the extended warranty.

Ex. The retail on my TV was 6500. I was able to negotiate a 4900 purchase price w/ a 500.00 (5) year warranty. Still 1100.00 off.

Similar results in my sons LCD 2200 retail, 1200 + 250 warranty, and got 5% off for my AVid discount.

Don't count out Tweeter, just work on negotiating..

TVs.. Tweeter is negotiable. I've found that they are hard to deal with regarding their Martin Logans - they wouldnt budge because the ML are price protected. They did offer me a lot of cables for no charge though.

As to the original question, a quick telly to the local merchant would probably be the EASIEST way to figger it out, no?

Not to break up the Kojak fan club, but really, back to Panamax...
You won't find a new Panamax unit for less than retail. They are a dealer-only brand, and the most they allow is 5%, except for dicontinued units. If you mean the 5400 EX, or 5500 EX, full-retail. If you mean the previous models with the orange analog meaters, the 5500 was going for I believe $600 at Magnolia until they ran out. Could have been $700.
Now, if they take the cost out of another item as part of a larger deal to give you a break, that's a different story. But at a high-end dealer they don't just cut money off the top on a single item without something else to show for it, such as a $500 warranty on a TV, or a full system.
    Current System:

Mitsubishi 30" LCD LT-3020 (for sale**)
Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand (Rosewood)-Mains (with Audioquest Mont Blanc cables)
    CSi5-Center (for sale**)
    FXi3-surrounds (for sale**)
    Martin Logan Depth-Sub
    B&K AVR 507
    Pimare CD21-CD Player
    Denon 1815-DVD Player
    Panamax M5500-EX-Line Conditioner

With Tweeter, tv's don't carry that much margin. To get a discount you either price match, or get an extended. Or you can get one if you can haggle well. Speakers carry much higher margin. Polk is protected against discounts..unless you buy a bunch and/or go for extended. Although it's not guaranteed and is still against company policy.

While speakers have more margin than tv's, they tend to be discouted less-both because they are more likely to be price protected, and because most people don't expect them to be. TV's are the cars of the electronics world. Everyone expects to get a deal.

    Default Sigh!

I was totally in love with Telly Savalas when I was a teenager! It's a shame both he & his brother died so young.
