    Default I blew up my amplifier!!!! DAMN DAMN DAMN

    It finally happened, I screwed up BIG TIME. I knew what I did wrong the moment it happened...and when it blew, it REALLY blew. I'm talking SNACK CRACKLE POP AND FLAMES coming out of the amplifier. So what did I forget??? I forgot to remove the jumper wire on the binding posts of my SRS speakers when I went to bi-amplification. Thank God that the speakers are all right and I only blew one of the two amps.

    Note to self...."take your time and be more careful".

    Anyway, I finished up with the 2-channel setup and the subwoofers....man it sounds great!!! (I said that to console myself).
    Amplifiers: 1-SAE Mark IV, 4-SAE 2400, 1-SAE 2500, 2-SAE 2600, 1-Buttkicker BKA 1000N w/2-tactile transducers. Sources: Sony BDP CX7000es, Sony CX300/CX400/CX450/CX455, SAE 8000 tuner, Akai 4000D R2R, Technics 1100A TT, Epson 8500UB with Carada 100". Speakers:Polk SDA SRS, 3.1TL, FXi5, FXi3, 2-SVS 20-29, Yamaha, SVS center sub. Power:2-Monster HTS3500, Furman M-8D & RR16 Plus. 2-SAE 4000 X-overs, SAE 5000a noise reduction, MSB Link DAC III, MSB Powerbase, Behringer 2496, Monarchy DIP 24/96.

    Sorry to hear that Joe; at least the speakers did not suffer....You can get an amp any day :)

    So, are you still using the old SL2000's? What do you think about the SRS's??

    You can't believe how relieved I was when I realized the speakers were unhurt. They sound simply great! I'm going to keep using the sl2000's until the entire setup is tweaked to sound as good as it can. Then I'll install the new tweeters and see the difference.

    Another think I have to do is solve all the "shaking" problems. There are vibrating sounds coming from everywhere....the t.v. enclosure, the windows, the pictures on the wall, and other places I haven't yet found.

    Only one amp blew? could have been both.

    Should I start posting ebay links to amps now?

    I ALWAYS use an ass-gasket. Never hover because of splash down and back splatter. I also float landing pad made from TP for a soft landing to avoid the above. One can never be too cautious when dealing with the general public. - RonP

    i guess at some point everyone frys some piece of electronics gear in their time. it bites hard when it happens... because every single instance could have been avoided.

    Troy, if you do spot an SAE amp (preferably with meters and 200+ wpc) I wouldn't mind a heads up on it. You'd be helping out a Polkster re-acquire an amp for his beloved SRS.

    I've already brought the amp to the service center and they'll give me a call to let me knw if it's repairable.

    Default SDA driver commits suicide

    I've never blown any electrical equipment in my home yet, but yesterday I popped a midwoofer out of the voice coil on my SDA 1Cs. Was listening to some jazz with the volume around 11 o'clock on my preamp and heard a little pop every now and then coming from my right speaker. I took off the grill just in time to see the MW jump out of the voice coil and lock into place out in front of the frame. I've listened alot of times this loud and even higher, with no issues, but I'm thinking there may have been a low frequency note that pushed the driver into suicide.

    Brian Bromberg - Choices was on at the time, nice CD if you haven't heard it yet. He is truly a gifted bass player.

    I have seen a sae 2500 for sale. It is posted on canuckaudiomart.ca. He is asking $700 Canadian.
