    Default Progressive Scan DVD

What is the easiest way to tell if a DVD play is progressive scan? I have a Sony that is a few years old (DVP-NS400D I believe) and I'm not sure if it is or not. It has component outputs (too old for HDMI). I don't think that it is but I could be wrong and I don't know how to tell.

Go into your menu on the DVD player, (not the DVD you are watching), and go to Audio/Video or just video, and check if there is an option to input an interlaced/progressive scan.

    or

Do a search on your player http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Sony_DVP_NS400D and you will find that yours is not progressive......

Is your TV digital or analog? With a digital TV you do not need progressive scan player.

As true as this may be, he may have a better chip in the DVD player than in the TV. But this is not the case here.

I do not have a new TV yet, but I am planning on getting a Sony KDF-E55A20 which is a RP LCD TV. My understanding that this TV, though HD, is analog and not digital.

The only true digital displays are LCoS and, eh, can't remember the other one. Plasma?

All LCD's are digital, so are plasmas and DLP's etc. Analog sets are CRT.

So what does the progressive scan feature actually do? I have a 36" Toshiba CRT that is around 3 years old. Can I use the progressive scan feature with this TV?

All HDTV ready supports progressive scan (obvious, if your DVD player come with it). Plasmas, Lcd's also supports progressive scan.
