    Default Sly at the Grammy's

did anyone else think Sly just walked off the stage during the Family Stone "medley" last night?
he looked scared and confused during the performance
he is, after all, the JD Salinger of the music industry...
how they ever got him on stage after 19 years of self-imposed exile is beyond me
i mean, he left it all in part because of his inability to socially function around these types --- and that was twenty years before Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5 (that latter was actually "backing" him during the performance)
    so what gives?
talk about throwing someone to the wolves...
or maybe i just saw it all wrong

That's exactly my impression. He hardly sang and played the keyboard, and when he did, he just looked down at the keyboard.

as an aside, if this was indeed the train wreck it looked like...
Dave Chapelle, who the Grammy committee "cleverly" requested introduce the event, might have had all his fears (regarding the glare of the celebrity spotlight, the pressures of fame, etc.) confirmed...
one of his heroes in Sly just lived out a pretty mortifying experience in front of a global audience
could be thinking "not me, no way no how"
then again, i might be way off base here

Hmm, you guys must be the 2 people that actually watched it. American Idol got higher ratings than the Grammys. I hope the Oscars fall on their face too.

Generally, the Grammy's sucked. Horrific singing all around. We kept switching the channels. The tribute to Sly was astonishingly bad. Seemed more like a farce than a tribute. Sly reminded me of Ozzie Osbourne -- too many drugs fried his brain and marred his appearance.

UHHH 3 people, well not really, I TIVO'd it to watch at a later time. Guess it wasn't worth watching, good thing I can fast forward the fluff.

I wonder if the rating system takes into account TIVO recordings. If not, then I am not doing any Neilsen peeps a favor, I TIVO everything, hate commercials....

man, i agree -- the grammy's are complete and utter garbage...
the only categories that make an honest attempt to recognize the greatest accomplishments in their respective genres aren't even televized, and the only one that is televized and makes some attempt to recognize artistic credibility (Best Alternative album), falls on it's ass more often than not -- in that it generally boasts two or three deserving nominations, but ends up giving the award to the most recognizable artist (Beck, Beck, or Beck)
the Arcade Fires's "Funeral" should have not only been up for best alt album, but for best album of the year IMO
so i don't generally watch this craptacular spectacle, but i had to keep an eye out for Sly, as this was a pretty big deal for ALL of music--
this man was a pioneer, and his music is timeless --he changed so much, bringing together so many people from such differing backgrounds in order to create something simultaneously beautiful and honest :)
and the grammy's still managed to trivialize his legacy by surrounding him with flavor of the month types and utter phoniness
this should be upsetting for all fans of music

So we are talking about Sly from the family stone and not Sylvester Stalone or is it one and the same?
I don't watch much of the crap on network t.v. any more, I'd rather putz around the house.
