Default Has anybody here blown the tweeters on their (new) Monitors?

I was reading through the reviews of the Monitor series speakers on this website as well as some others, and many people complain about how they keep blowing tweeters. I don't recall anybody on these forums having this problem. I also have not had this problem, even though i've already owned them for 2 months and play them pretty loud from time to time.

Was this a problem that occured in earlier batches that has since been fixed, or is it a result of people abusing them and maxing out the trebble on a yamaha receivers?

I did read some reviews stating that the monitor 70's tweeter were very fragile and blew easily. at circuit city (where I work), The m50s and 70s have been used at exreme volumes almost everyday since they have came out and they are still working great so.....

It's all bull****....the tweeters on Monitor has great. I have a pair of Monitor 50, powered by Yamaha RX-V657 and sounds great at higher volumes (-5db) and you can adjust the treeble to +4 or +5db and sounds extremely bright without problem.

The only drawback is no protection for the tweeter. If you uses the grilles off, be carefull...don't touch it. Is very exposed to "diabolic" hands ;)

Amen to that! I took off the grill to clean a little dab of glue near the tweeter than i guess they (polk manufacturer in China) forgot to clean off, and i accidentaly bumped the tweeter with my nose. it popped in and back out so i guess I am lucky! Also my stepsister has a habbit of poking in tweeters and dust caps so I leave the grills on for good :)

If you're referring to the thread about the guys wife... I read about a guy who thought that since his reciever was rated to 120wpc (Pio 1015) and his Polk XXX were rated to 150wpc, there would be no problem testing it at +14 (or whatever max was). Pop within a minute...twice.

I say in the previous post. The sound and performance are great at lower or higher volume levels. I shaking when put off the grilles for unfortunely touch the tweeter (TERRIBLE NO PROTECTION ... WHAT'S WRONG POLK ENGINEERS ??? ) Anyway...I recommend uses the grilles ... more safety !!!! :)

Protection, as in a wire grill/ cage of some sort, would interfere with transmission... No thanks.

Yup and fits with the problem being more pronounced with the 70's.

It's really not that hard to not caress your tweeters for the added sound you get from not having some kind of cage or protection like nht, energy and others use.

Feel the music not the speaker ;)

It's rarely used for protection, it's called a phase shield, and some tweeters need it to sound 'right'.

Yeah, they did. So did Sonus Faber (for example) on my recent Crescendo's.
