    Default Sound Deadening

    Does anybody have a rough idea of how many square feet of a sound deadening product i would need to cover all the necessary areas on a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

    I was thinking of getting 50 Sq. Feet of Rattle Trap Xtreme made by Fatmat. Would that be enough to cover the whole jeep? would i need more? less? i am ignorant in this area, so i would appreciate help. :)
    System in construction.. :)

    depends on 'necessary'... up to a certain very expensive point, more is better... primary areas are around the wheelwells especially, then the firewall, then the floor, then the ceiling... basically you'll notice improvement until you spend several thousand dollars... 50 sq feet is a nice big number, though, you'll definitely notice and appreciate that much...

    doors = say 30

    floor = say 40

    roof = say 40

    pillars = say 10

    back gate = say 10 (due to window

    dash = say 3.

    firewall = say 6

    that's guessing.

    that's to go insane though.

    wow thats like 140 sq feet, holy "sheet" man. i dont think u'll need that much - 100 is prolly a good guestimate.

    I just did all the area in my 2005 Tacoma Doublecab with the exception of the headliner. I used the Rattle Trap and a full 70 sq/ft. They now have a 100 sq/ft bulk pack and it is a screamin deal. Goes on great and sticks like crazy. Very nice stuff at 80 mils in thickness.

    I liked that article, i think the way he performed - and more importantly, interpreted - his tests was very well thought-out...

    cody will be happy to hear that damplifier and damplifier pro came out on top in every performance category measured :D

    oh, and if anyone cares, that article inspired me to do basically my whole car in damplifier pro this summer...

    damplifier pro is $150 for 36 square feet... dynamat xtreme (its only real competitor) is normally nearly twice that (on sale now at onlinecarstereo.com for $149)...

    though i won't deny this is a lot of cash, i think it's well worth it (based on the ~15 ft^2 of xtreme i have in the car already)

    the sludge, if you can wait for it to dry, is MUCH cheaper and works better than mat if applied in equal thickness
