Default Don Knotts Dies at 81

LOS ANGELES - Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show," has died. He was 81.

Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs "The Andy Griffith Show," and another Knotts hit, "Three's Company."

Unspecified health problems had forced him to cancel an appearance in his native Morgantown in August 2005.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken was one of favorite movies as a kid!

Also Knotts was on the original "Tonight Show" with Steve Allen and he would play the nervous guy when Allen did the man on the street interviews.

He was a good actor. I love The Andy Grifith Show, Three's Company, and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. That last one is certainly good for a lot of laughs during a late night watch with friends! :p

Don Knotts was great in his other signature TV role, Ralph Furley on "Three's Company". He and John Ritter together created quite a comedy team.

    RIP, Mr. Knotts. :(

I saw Don Knotts in a play here 2 years ago and he was still sharp as a tack. I love The Incredible Mr. Limpit!

It's always sad to hear when a celebrity like Don Knotts passes. I grew up watching so many of the things he did. Played an oaf on TV and in many movies but was actually a very intelligent man. RIP

    Well that's terrible.

Don was a funny guy. At least there are re-runs to continue enjoying his humor and facial expressions. RIP

    Default Don Knotts

A funny and really relaxed guy, who made a career of playing nervous wrecks.

    Thanks Don!!!
