    Default Oscars......Standout moments....

I just got up into Cedar Falls for the night and turned on the Oscars. Some of the things that have struck me as comical.........

Someone stressing that DVD's aren't wha's really important......it's that all of us go and cram into a theater for the "true" movie experience.........lol....lower the prices, shock collar the kids, and I'll think about it......

Selma Hayek (ya fine, she's hot), but her voice drives me nuts. That, and her chest looked VERY uncomfortable (bad dress design)........yes, I see the jokes coming a mile away on this one........

Yes. and then Jake Gyllenhaal had to talk about you can't watch Epics on TV or on protable DVD players.. and then he made a very sarcastic expression -- was quite funny.

Nicole Kidman looked DELICIOUS! Absolutely stunning! I loved her look!

Did you see Jack Nicholson's expression after announcing CRASH as best picture? He was like...WHOA!!!

Huge upset. Everyone expected Brokeback Mountain...including me. I haven't seen any of the nominated films though, so I can't say it was wrong.

DVD is the way of the future my man. The president of the motion picture arts knows that too, but did his el presidente' thing and tried to talk people back into the theaters. With a ticket, popcorn and soda about the same price as a new release on DVD, how can you expect people NOT to wait for it to be DVD released. You have Plasma and DLP TV's with state of the art home sound systems, so how can you expect people NOT to wait.

I thought the Academy guru's veiled comment about movies going direct to DVD was interesting.

Sorry Gooroo, but some of us "backward" folks be having a mucho type, better experience at home....than in a real live movie type theatre these days.

Can you can adjust the volume to suit the movie? I hear bass is a real cool feature in movies lately, especially in War of the Worlds.

Maybe, you can not force the theatre to serve $8 popcorn, with your high marketing fees?

Maybe, you can tell the ppl in the theatre, that it's a movie, so STHU?

Until then, which will NEVER happen....keep on looking at that red line coming down and down and down.

My HT is basic, and if in any way shape or form, I can avoid the physical theatre....count me in.

    THE ONLY COOL THEATRE...DRIVE-IN.

Jessica Alba and Charlize. 'nuff said.

I watched Crash last night, and I thought it was very good, ironic, and thought the acting of all were great. Haven't had the chance to watch BM, so I can't comment the upset.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Brett - I assume you mean Cedar Falls IA, WITF are you doing there? And for Dorokusai, Cedar Falls IA still has a rather nice drive in theater which is a big hit with the college crowd. As of a couple of years ago they used to play the Rocky Horror Picture Show one night a month, and it was a pretty wild party! RHPS and $2 big ass beers, it's a recipe for a NFD

silly as this may sound.. but i've seen nearly all the nominated films in the past few months.

I'm glad Crash won best picture. It really deserves it. Walk the Line and Capote are also good films. Some other movies have good actor/tress performances.. while the movie itself wasn't much.. their performances were. Very happy that Philip Seamour Hoffman won best actor award.

Wow. I mean, I liked Crash and all, but when I left the theater, there was never a thought in my head that that would become the year's best movie. I thought Munich would have been a much more appropriate choice. Munich is also the only other nominated movie I have seen so far.

I was getting a little tired about all the need to go to the theater comments. Gyllenhaal's non-comments were awesome. I'll go to the theater when 1) you can get people to STFU, and 2) get some decent sound going in there. Its time for the successor to THX to arrive and establish some real quality benchmarks for all theaters.

And most importantly, Alba was hot, Theron was hot (the should thing was for me to fall asleep on after I finish), Garner has pregger boobs, and tonight was my first acquantence with Ms. Watts, and it will not be the last.

I was expecting ALOT more from Stewart last night. Either he wasn't funny or the crowd just wasn't gellin' him. I think it was both.
Either way, an uneventful Academy Awards.
I'm sorry, but if I was up there giving an acceptance speech i would have told the damn orchestra who were STILL playing to shut the **** up. That was bull****. It happened with every award, everything felt rushed, everything just felt wrong.

Basically, to sum up how the Oscars went on a production basis, people from Crash couldn't even complete their acceptance speech for best pic w/out the orchestra COMPLETELY drowning them out on purpose and then BOOM... fade to black. If you want to sum up the entire 3 1/2 hours in terms of quality, that 1minute does it well.

Yeah, I was expecting BBM to win as well. I've seen the movie. It's a great movie. I'm not on this tirade b/c I thought it was robbed or any of that b.s. How should I know for I haven't seen Crash yet? I want to now however. No, my gripe is with the ceremony itself. I was VERY disappointed last night.

As far as best picture I only saw CRASH and I for one believe that it deserved it, most powerwul drama that I have seen in some time.

Now Im definitely not an artistic person and usually miss the boat on things like this but I thought that this years oscars was a travesty! The 36 mafia crap was probably the biggest slap in the face to all the musical geniuses that have never won oscars.

Every movie that was nominated for best pic, SUCKED and Id only heard of 2 of them!

Then you get that dim bulb clooney up there saying that its good that hollywood is completely out of touch with the real world.

I do give credit to Stewart for not using this as an opportunity to spew political rhetoric. I figured hed would be on a Bush bashing fest from opening to close but he stayed professional and I applaud him for that.

And I dont think I agreed with any of the awards.

I dont know, maybe Im just the one completely out of touch and hollywood is right one it but I think if that were the case, this wouldnt have been one of hollywoods worst years in ticket sales on record.

My advice to hollywood, "stop preaching! Youre a bunch of maggot infested hippies that have never held a real job in your life and have no clue about the real world! Just show me titties and explosions and Im a happy guy!"

If I want a course in sociology, economics, psychology etc....I'll go to a class....movies are movies. If you get something out of them, rock on....some are inherently better or worse than others, fact based, opinion based, rabid crazy based ....and some are just PBS style. Blah Blah...

For example....If you needed Hotel Rwanda to wake you up, you have been out of touch for more than you should have been.

My wife and I watched the Oscars and for the most part agreed the awards went to the proper nominees. However we don't necessarily agree with the Nominees. Why is it that all nominated movies are dramas, and all nominated actors/actresses were in a drama. It seems that the only comedy like films that get any credit anymore are animated films. Now I agree that Hoffman, Witherspoon, Phoenix, etc. all did outstanding jobs in their respective roles, but I really think that there are other good genres and actors out there that deserve more recognition. The Academy just appears to be too narrow minded. Anyway just my opinion.

In regards fashion...Keira Knightly, Sandra Bullock, and Jessica Alba get the best dressed award in this house. Mmmmm.....I better stop there. Don't want people to think I've been spending time in Brett's "Oh the Joys" thread.:D

I personally really enjoyed John Stewart. I too was afraid it would be an evening of political stabs and jokes, but was pleasantly surprised. I laughed out loud on a number of occasions.

    Just my 2cw.

Glad someone else caught that crap. I prefer staying home to watch movies, and I don't have a family... I can't imagine what its like to bring you, your wife, and 1 or more kids to a movie. CHA CHING! Just save the money, buy a $20 DVD, and be done with it. And then you can watch it as many times as you want to.

Sorry Academy... your service has little to no incentives and people are figuring it out. Look at this past weekend at the box office. I think the movie that grossed the most was a total of 15 million. Really sad. Would also be nice if Hollywood would make new movies and not remake like a banshee. Just what I want to see is the remake of Shaggy Dog.

What about Jennifer Lopez, wasn't she glamorous too?

I did feel sorry for Lauren Bacall. I don't think it was her fault.. the prompter was to far away.. a few other people handing out awards commented on how it was difficult to read. C'mon though. she is Lauren Bacall for petes sake.. give her a break.

Whatever tanning bed or tanning lotion she used, her skin looked too dark and unnatural with dark patches. I noticed that right off. Terrible looking!

People were busting on Nicole Kidman since she is so lightskinned and wore a light dress. Who cares! I loved her look and would knock the bottom out her sweet little tush!

I refuse to watch a 'ceremony' where dozens of overpaid and over-rated actors and actresses worship themselves and each other and expect the general public to do the same - which we do...

In fact, these awards shows in generally piss me off and always have

Granted, movies music and sports are an important part of our society, but in the end are non-essential services. Where's the awards show for our firefighters, or heroes who have died in combat, or our scientists who are changing the way we live as a society...

and yes, Jessica Alba is hot!
