Cingular(essentially bell) bought AT&T wireless, and now they return the favor. Interesting.

120 Billion in anual revenues is staggering. That said the best move for my career was getting away from AT&T Wireless.

What do you do as a switch man? Lucent 5E, Nortel or are you on the wireless side? The industry will probably move away from trunk line switching in general opting for an IMS platform. Bottom line is that phone numbers will be changing to an IP address.Originally Posted by disneyjoe7

This is actually hillarious from the subscriber (i.e. me) perspective. I've been with ATT Wireless since 1995, and have corporate plan that Cingular can't match. Consequently, after the Cingular/ATT chaos merger, I've asked Cingular to consolidate my GSM/TDMA bills. They said no can do, since they have two completely incompatible systems. So, I continue to send monthly payments, one to an Los Angeles lockbox, the other one goes to Carol Stream, IL. So now, that the "new" ATT bought Cingular, it is a full circle journey, yet it is not. Go figure. I am sure, internally, they still refer to their systems as legacy ATWS and legacy Cingular.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
Henry,
5E landline guy, but I also work all Toll, Carrier t1 -t3 mux rings turn ups, build new RT sites. Bottom line I do it all we are called "4 Wall Tech".

Steve you are in the thick of it thats for sure. When you start seeing media gate ways plopped in your center's you know that the 64Kbit world is being converted. All of your Toll and carriers will see at least a multiple of 3 uplift in capacity. Voice will move to VOIP and the introduction of IPTV will be the next stack. You will be BUSY!
BTW the 5E is a fine machine!!!
Thats my story and I'm sticken with it... ;>)

There's nothing left to buy....Qwest in the Midwest is the only sizable phone company left and it serves mainly rural customers.Originally Posted by millerman 3732

She's now Chief of Staff to Arnold.
Qwest = the joke of the Telecom community.
Is it just me or does the whole telecom industry seem like one big soap opera? Who's buying who? Who's screwing who? Who's dying of cancer? Who's really the child of who? I swear... I worked for sprint for almost a year and I shook my head at least 3 times a day when hearing about the whole MCI situation 3-4 years ago.

I feel I'm under some constraints here in what I can say here, sorry.
But in short to Toxis reply I don't feel overall the merge is bad for the consumer it levels the playing field with cable companies IMHO.

Maybe its time for the Government to break-up AT&T once more....
Very true. While Canada does not have the amount of telcos the USA does, being part of Bell has its ups and downs.Originally Posted by Toxis

Damn! That would be me. Now if I only knew what an ANI was. Actually when GTE bought Bell Atlantic and renamed to Verizon, they just ran their own original billing systems. So trying to get the number of customers or WTN's was a monumentous task. That's what I would expect from to happen here too.Originally Posted by dkg999
