    Default speakers like lsi9

Are there any other bookshelf speakers out there that have a similar sound at a better price? It seems too many people know the Lsi9 and bid them up way too high for used speakers! Of course, that applies to just about everything on EBAY lately. I will be driving them with a Nad 2400.
I am currently using Paradigm 11se floorstanders. The size and the fact they are rear ported are causing me headaches with placement. The Mrs. is not allowing me to put them were they need to be. They tend to be a bit boomy in the low end(whole wall resonance behind the speaker). The only other thing I will try is to make a port redirecting guide. Someone here had posting
one on their speakers about a year ago.

One thing you may try is to get a pair of tube socks, bundle it up, and stuff that port...may help.....

As to LSi 9 like speakers at a better price, you may consider AV123 offerings which use the same tweeter...they are less well known so you may have better luck....they may not sound the same but will sound pretty good and more similar than other speakers out there that use totally different drivers...
System 1: Onix Rockets 750 Sig. Ed., Rotel RC 1070, Rotel RB 1080, Music Hall MMF CD25 w/627opamps

    System 2: LSi15, Marantz SR8400, Rotel 1080, RM6800 (C&S), Yamaha: 2300 Univ. DVD, CDC-625RS.

    System 3: LSi7, Yamaha SW215, HK 230, Elite DV-45A; Sony C445.

System 4: RTi100, Onkyo TXSV717Pro, Monarchy/Sonic Impact Hybrid, Yamaha CD.

Thanks! I aready tried the tube sock trick earlier today. No boom, no base.
Kills the sound. The mids sounded muffled too, so I gave up on that fix. I found the post of the rear port deflector. I may try building one.
I looked up the Onix speakers. Nice, but not much different in price than the LSI series. I will add them to my searchs on Ebay and Audiogon.

BTW, I don't know of the specs of your Paradigms or what you are driving them with but I had the bass boominess with the LSi15s. It was only after I got the Rotel 1080 with 200 watts/8ohm (with high current and dampening factor) that I was happy with the bass...you may want to try a more powerful amp....

Why shop used at places like Ebay? I'd only use audiogon.com as a resource.

Swans are another highly regarded bang-for-the-buck speaker. I don't know if they sound anything like LSi's, though. And finding Swans and Rockets used are not as common as finding LSi's.

Try a set of Energy RC-10. An amazing speaker for less than $500.

Hopefully he found a bookshelf speaker he liked after 2.5 years of searching .... :D Note that the original thread started in early 2006
