Who could ever forget the first time they heard "Eruption" from Van Halen's first album. That album burst a style of playing that was unsuccessfully copied by many guitarists.

Truly landmark!

Don't forget Jimmy Hendrix. Gotta love the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock.

By the way, Russman, you might be interested to know that a lot of the bass stuff on Pink Floyd albums is actually David Gilmour. See the book "Saucerful of Secrets," by Nicholas Schaffner. Gilmour could get it done faster in the studio. Waters, according to the book, used to come to Gilmour and say, "Thank you for winning me another bass player award." And I gotta say, as someone who's heard Waters play live, it wasn't hard for me to believe the book.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Johnny Winter & Rick Derringer. The album "Live Johnny Winter And" with Winter/Derringer on guitar, Randy Jo Hobbs on bass, and Bobby Caldwell on drums kicks a$$ as a rock/blues recording of cover tunes. Sound quality is not the greatest (it was released in 1971), but still kicks.
