Question About Choosing the right Subs.

Okay, im new but i have been trying to do some research on which subwoofers to buy. I listen mostly rock/rap, so my brother told me I should get 2, 10". I want something that hits pretty hard, but not so hard that its breaking peoples legs when I drive by, or shattering my windows. My brother suggested Infinity, or Rockford Fosgate. I dont really know much about them so I tried looking at them on Ebay. It seems you could get an AMP and 2 Subs for roughly 200-400$ off ebay. My bro says he knows how to install everything... I would just like to know how do I tell how many WATT amplifier I need.

Macleod knows everything about Car Audio. You can try pming him. I usually stay away from the Car Audio section. However, IMO unless you're going for pure SPL, it's a waste to use 2 subs b/c everything below 100hz. is essentially mono anyway. Buy a single DVC subwoofer and bridge it to a 2ch. amp.

You dont use 2 subs to be stereo, its all about moving more air and getting more volume. So if youre after good thump and not so much perfect SQ, then 2 subs wouldnt be a bad way to go.

As for Intinity or RF, both are good however I would take the RF. Stay off Ebay. Way too easy to get ripped off there. Youll have to pay a little more but buying from an authorized dealer is so much better all the way around and there are great deals to be had out there.

For example, here is a great sub. Good output and great sound quality. $76 each. Thats $152 for a pair of great, brand spanking new, straight from the manufacturer with full blessing and warranty.

For an amp here is a great Profile amp for $160. Again, brand spanking new and authorized. Profile aint as an exotic a name brand like PPI or Xtant, but they will make their rated power cleanly and are well built and cost half the price. They are a great budget/starter amp.

So there is a great system for $325 or so and they have free shipping. Thats just a little bit above what you could get from Ebay but this way youre getting good quality gear, properly powered and fully authorized.

well... I have never had a bad expirience off ebay, and i have been using for a long time, i do my research before I buy making sure they have 99%+ posative feedback. Thanks for the advise..

Just because someone has 99% feedback does not mean they are good to buy from. There are many sellers on there with that rating, but with also hundreds of negatives.

The thing thats tricky about buying electronics off of Ebay is its hard to tell if youre getting crap or not cause you cant see inside of it and even if you could you still couldnt tell because theyre so moody. Something like, say, furniture you can see if its broken or scratched. You can clean up the outside of an amp to it looks shiny and new and it may even work fine for a few hours then quit.

just learned that blems and returns are getting sold on ebay .. if the speaker has any defects as in aperance outer ring out of position . Best to pay with paypal then u can file a claim and get your money back i have had to do this before and I got my money back.

Why not get one very good 12" for $160ish instead of 2 ok 10's? You would have a smaller box & just might come close to spl of the 10's. I got my eclipse aluminum sw8812 off ebay brand new a few months ago for $150.

Ebay has good deals but you do have to beware . alot of blems , b stock and returns. I have had good luck so far
