I recently disconnected my HK to send off for a replacement. I had a problem with DTS tracks so Harman told me to send it in and they'll ship out a brand new 435 free of charge. They even paid for shipping which was cool. So in the meantime, I decided I would use my old Technics SH-AC300 Dolby Digital processor until I got the new unit.
I was actually a little shocked at how good this thing is. It's just as good as the HK, if not better. Of course it doesn't have all the cool features as the HK, or anywhere near as many inputs, but for movie watching, it does an incredible job. So good in fact that I want to do one of 2 things. When I get the new receiver, I want to sell it and get maybe the Technics AC500, which adds DTS decoding and put the rest of the money towards the Carver AV-705x. I'm using the 405 now and it's an amazing amp for the money. I just want a little more power.
Or, I can keep the 405, and get a better, more up to date pre/pro. Something with more inputs and more functionality than the Technics. The HK was good, but I did get a lot of hum when it was connected to the Carver. With the Technics, there is absolutely zero hum. What would you guys recommend? This is really my first attempt at seperates, and so far, I've been blown away at the difference over receivers. I've picked up more accounts at work and I'm finally able to afford better stuff. :)
