Angry Stolen System -> New System

My camaro was getting its engine rebuilt and the guys been screwing us over royally. So my dad calls up there yesterday and he tells us my system was "stolen". No broken windows. The car has an alarm and for it to be "stolen", it would take someone who knows exactly what theyre doing at least 20 mins to get all of the equip out. So here's the loss:

    Polk MOMO MMC650.........Retail: 184 after taxes...Paid: 184
    Polk DB650.....................Retail: 108 after taxes...Paid: 83
    Polk GNX104 x 2..............Retail: 200 after taxes...Paid: 44
    MTX 311D Mono Amp........Retail: 200 after taxes...Paid: 200
    Infinity 7520a St. Amp......Retail: 142 after taxes...Paid: 84
    Pioneer deh-p3600 h.u......Retail: 195 after taxes...Paid: 178
    Custom Camaro Box..........Retail: 135 after taxes...Paid: 135

So I spent roughly 725 on all the equipment, not including install, but expect to get about 1175 for everything from the insurance company or the shop (who should reimburse me for it).

For a complete system, roughly 1200-1300 to spend, I'm interested in what routes some of you would take. I'm looking for pair of front speakers, pair of subs w/ the camaro box, and would like to have two amps, along with a pioneer head unit ( I prefer the equalizer options on pioneers ).

So the Camero was sitting in their shop when it was 'stolen'? Sounds just a little bit fishy... especially that everything was taken. Usually they'll just grab what they can and run, so anything loose like a sub box, amps and the head unit.

I'm not sure what to do, but in any case good luck.

That is total BS, I would like to see how they handle this. I would think that they should be held responsible....

I would stick with the Momo speakers. MMC6500's in the front and MMC650's in the back and then a couple MM2104's for your subs.

Then for amps, try the new Alpine V Power models. There is a 70x4 and a 600x1 @ 2 ohms for $300 each. That brings you up to $1270 which doesnt include your box costs.

....or the head unit....or taxes....or amp installs. So with those options Id probably be spending about 1900.

Right now savings is looking pretty damn good to me, especially w/ a 500 tax return. I loved that system it was relatively cheap and sounded great, but it was built over time. Spending all of that money at one time is a bit scary to me.

Maybe a second car on the horizon....

So should get the car back next week... well see how that goes.

With a new car out of the picture, the system came back in. I've already purchased two mtx amps - the T564 and T942 - both for 530. The money I'm going to invest has gone up. I'm looking to spend about 2 grand on it. The head unit is going to cost me less than 200, and I have to buy a custom camaro box which will run about 125-200, so Ive roughly got a grand or so to play around with.

I would love to have the sr6500s I'm just trying to justify the price, might be easier if someone carried them around here...

That 942 is a beast too, and I'd like to have some subs that can take that kind of power... over 900 watts bridged.

Exalted, Macleod.... I'd really like to get your opinions.

Id suggest getting a better head unit first off. A $200 h/u will be fine for casual listening but itll have very limted tuning and tweaking features and believe me, youll want them.

This Panasonic is about the best "bang for the buck" head unit out right now. Its on sale right now at Crutchfield so you can get this $500 h/u for $350. It has a good 9 band EQ and a bunch of preset curves to get you started. Plus strong 5 volt pre-outs and a dedicated sub channel and fader.

As for the speakers, it really depends on how much you want to spend. The MMC6500's are awesome speakers and well worth every penny. But so are the SR's which are the best speakers on the market dollar for dollar but theyer $750 where the MMC's are $300.

The only advice I can give is that when designing a system, the speakers are the most important part of it and you should get the best speakers possible.

So I found a local shop that polk sponsors. He had the sr6500s in an acura rsx along with a momo 2104. The system sounded great, but I couldnt justify the extra 500 to purchase the sr's, so momo's it is. I should be getting the subs within the next two weeks, along with the car, and then the fun begins....

I had a panasonic hu once and didnt have any problems other than the boot time was a bit irritating. I like the user-friendliness of the pioneer and was looking at the deh-p4800mp and deh-p5800mp. I never knew a head unit could have a sub-dedicated channel.

Finally got the car back about a week ago and started working on what was stolen. They ripped the driver's side speaker bracket out of the door, taking some of the door with it. I take it into insurance so they can assess the damage.

Good news is the system is coming back though. This is what I have so far:

    Pioneer deh-p860mp
    Momo c6500
    MTX 564 amp
    MTX 942 amp

I'm getting a pair of the momo 2124s and the camaro sub box for about 300 altogether. Already spend about 1200 so ill have the system for about 1500, and they didnt rip out the amp wire installs thankfully. Just worried about the comp installs and the door bracket.

Car is running like crap too. Small leak around the trans, which is messing up, and a hanging wire under the car that worries me. That car is nothing but bad luck....
