    Default MW6500 in '81 7b's??

I asked this question in another thread but I thought I would start this thread for anyone else who have different drivers in their series.

I have read up on every peice of info about my vintage 7b's and everything I read says that my 7b's supposed to have the mw6502's in them. I have the mw6500 in mine. The mw6500 have lower ohms (resistance) then the mw6502. So they are different speakers. I was wondering since I have the peerless tweeters, if that was the reason for the mw6500's and not the mw6502's. My '84 monitor 4's have the mw6502 (which they should according to specs). But like I said, every spec sheet I read has the mw6502 instead of the mw6500, why is this?

    Jake

The main reason for my question is the fact that I bought these speakers used and the owner told me that everything was original.

There was a lot of wacky weed being inhaled in those days.

LOL....I see that. If the mw6502 is the right driver for this series I will find 2 on ebay or here. But I dont want to go through all the trouble for nothing. I wanted to get opinions here first.

I did found out that the 10's used the mw6500, but the speaker is different then the 7's. As a matter of fact I have not found one spec sheet with the mw6500's in the 7's, 7a's or 7b's.

I have a pair of 7 (not sure b or c, but have the sl2000's) which have MW6502. Not all 10's have MW6500, only the 10a's. I have 4 pairs of 10's. All 3 pairs of the 10a's are peerless and MW6500, whereas the 10b's have MW6503 and sl2000. Like F1 said, there were a lot of weeds especially when Polk was in transition of older to newer model. We have seen newer models with old parts and older models with new parts. Quite frankly, I am not sure there will be noticeable different between the 2 drivers in the 7's. If you live in SF Bay Area, I can exchange your MW6500's with a pair of MW6502 but definitely not sending them via shipper. The MW6500's are just too fragile ....

I know they freeze too easily.

After alittle thought, I noticed that the mw6500 was used with the peerless. The mw6502 was introduced when the peerless was deleted and the sl1000 and 2000 was put in its place.

    Well....that clears that up...Thanks guys.
