    Default Lunch

Well, I certainly had an interesting lunch experience today.

Bill and Leah's is a family owned and operated business here in town. They do a great business selling ice-cream, burgers, and hot dogs. You can order a 'small' single scoop of ice cream in a cone for cheap, and it's HUGE, and in actuallity about three scoops. Everybody loves their foot-long hot dogs, and I'm really fond of their burgers. I always get a 'Burger N Basket', which is a double cheeseburger that comes with fries. They also use that small, crushed up ice in their drinks like you get at concession stands at little league baseball games. Great place to go anyway you look at it. Almost.

When you walk in, you have to stand in line at the counter to order, and then stand in line at the counter to pick up your food. Their so popular, you usually have to stand in line pretty close to ten minutes before you can order, and then it's a while before you get your food. This is why I protested getting lunch from Bill and Leah's after I offered to go get us something today. Dad decided he'd call in the order while I was on my way, though, so I agreed to bring back something from Bill and Leah's.

Now, lemme point out that Bill and Leah's is practially right around the corner. If you drove backwards all the way and missed several turns, having to back-track more than a few times, it couldn't take you more than ten minutes to get there.

So, anyhoo, I took off, on my way to Bill and Leah's. I turn onto the main street (appropriately named Main St.) and whao...where'd all that traffic come from?? It looks like everybody with a car in a 10 mile radius is in front of me! And behind me...there's everbody within a 20 mile radius looking no happier than I am.

So I just lose myself in my Ted Nugent CD I just bought, rocking out, and try to just go with the flow, seeing if I can make it to the joint before they close up. I ended up tring to get there by about three different ways, each with its own little detour (appearantly there's something going on this weekend). Now remember how long it's supposed to take me to get there? Ten minutes! I could probably walk there in no more than 17 minutes.

Thirty mintues later I pull into the parking lot!! And of course they're so busy there's no where to park. So I pull around back and park in front of the dumpsters that plainly say "Do Not Park - Towing Zone" and get out to finally claim my lunch. As I walk around the corner of my car, the perfect opportunity to let out a few colorful expressions presents itself, if I were of the sort to let out colorful expressions: I realize I probably don't have any money with me. I take out my wallet and......sure enough, I have ONE, uno, 1-dollar bill with me. And nothing else with which to pay.

So, I call Dad and tell him, and he calls Bill and Leah's to see if they'll take a credit card number. Of course they won't accept that or a personal check (as if I had any checks with me, either), so Dad just told 'em to throw it away and called me back and told me to come home.

So, how was your lunch? :p

aww, c'mon, Bliss! why can't you pawn "something of value" with Bill, take the food home, and back to Bill's with money? After all, it's a "neighborhood" food joint, competing with gazillion other mom-and-pop food joints?

If Bill's won't take 'em, then he deserves your middle finger salute.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Totally agree with polkatese. Like, what's the size of this joint? I hope you live in a relatively large populous town as small town attitude it's not.

The atmosphere in this place is extremely down home, redneck, everybody knows everybody. Just about all the sports teams come there for meals/celebration during the summer.

I kinda agree that they should have been willing to work something out. What, I don't know. If they don't have a credit card machine, then they couldn't have done that if they wanted to. I didn't have a check, so it wouldn't have really mattered if they had agreed to accept one. But I did find it strange (and not very agreeable to me) that such a small, homey place would rather just throw the food away.

This place can probably seat about 50 people or so, but when it's at capacity there's no room to move...and that's just about all the time.

It had something to do with Korner's Folly and a spring fair or something or other. It was just 3 minutes from my house...why do you expect me to know what it was about?! :p

The local check I don't understand BUT not accepting credit cards in a local establishment does. My Uncle has a really cool restuarant and instead of paying a monthly fee and percent of the sale he just says no to credit cards. This actually save the patrons that frequent his establishment at least 8% off of the total bill and over time can mean a pretty significant savings.

This approach does impact some customers but there sign's clearly stated that no cc's are accepted and most people just go hit the local ATM and come back to dinner. For those occasions that patrons have totally over looked the sign's, they are allowed to leave and get the cash if they don't have a check with a local addy on it.
