Screens out on my laptop

It appears that I lost the "backlight" on my laptop. If I look real closely I can see the picture, but other than that, it's pretty much black. Does only know if this is repairable? (it's not a huge issue since it's the old one that I just had replaced under warrenty because it kept craping out for other reasons. but that haven't asked for it back, so I just may keep it).

Try this.....open the nearest window,hold it like a frisbee,throw as hard as you can.

Replacing a backlight on a laptop costs approx. $300.
Replacing your laptop for a basic model cost approx. $500-600.

If it's a Dell or anything like that, you can get a new screen from them if you pester them enough. Their customer service pretty much gives in if you wont leave them alone about something.

You would just have to replace the screen yourself is all.

It's an HP. 2.8g processor with a 17" widescreen. It keeps having problems, so at $300 I may have to think about it. thanks for the input.

Call up HP to see how much it would cost, otherwise you may be able to do it yourself if you can order the part(s) needed.

yea it is, Im doing it on an old lcd from my dads work. Ill find the link on how to do it for you in a sec

I would get the direct replacement. I know which HP you are refering to, it's the 7000 series Pavillion. The 8000's are the same. I'm sure you could buffalo HP into sending you one fairly cheap, and the install is not too difficult (some screws, and plug and play) Order the part (HP, or direct replacement) and PM me if you need some help. That's originally a 1600-2800 dollar machine, and I don't think you would want to trade down to a Dell of all things. The Dell product is yet another victim of corporate margin excesses. Avoid if you can afford to.

I have one of the Pavillions with the smokin Desktop 64bit chip and the Briteview screen and I would sell my blood before trading it in for a Dell.
