Fred, I found an interesting way of utilizing my wife's plastic folding table. I am sure now it has a bow and she is going to make me compensate with a new one. lol

By the way, these are mid-woofs. the woofs aren't in the pics since I am still waiting for the delivery. I wanted to build a monitor with the ribbon tweets but someone suggested me to build a 3 way? Geez...I wonder whom.

The size of the cabinets they need looks like the KingKong coffins.
5ft^3 isn't bad. You could go larger, but for the average room, it's not needed.

    Rich,

I haven't build them yet. I guess it needs to wait for a Summer or two. I got to finish my DIY OB Line Array first. I finally got the OB subwoofers coming my way so it'll be done next year.

The spiral on the fan looks cool but I like the tiger shark drawing on the propeller head better. :D

Makes me wish I had plugs....shark jaws like P-40's sported...lol

Mike had a hand in getting me to go in this direction. Salk SoundScape 8's in black limba. It cost me more but they look and sound way better than I could ever do here. He asked about me diy'ing, but I sold my table saw a few years back. Also, crossovers would be a new learning curve for me. Even the backs looks good on these.

    Rich,

These speakers look amazing! Mike didn't steer you wrong! :) RAAL and accuton drivers but not sure about the woofers there. I am not sure why but the RAAL tweeters seems to have offset from the mids (and the center off the cabinet). It looks like Mr. Salk made them the mirror pair. Is it 3 way or 4 way design? The side woofer made me think it is a 4 way but they could a 3 way with the passive on the side?

Thanks! Mike was very helpful in steering me to speakers similar to my ESLís. I had heard Salk SongTowers but not the SoundScapes. IIRC they are 4 Ohm ScanSpeak Revelator woofers. They are three ways with two passive radiators on sides. Iíve heard three ways where you heard the ways, but not these. Dennis Murphy did the crossover work. 25Hz - 20KHz (+/- 1.5db). Would have loved to get a pair of SS10's but they start at $12K.

When I picked them up Jim had a flight to catch so not much time to chat. Wife and I got a tour of the shop, got a great demo and I took a few pics. I could have hung there for days! We loved the veneer vault! He has stuff there that would add hundreds to thousands for a speaker build. The black limba was a few hundred extra.

You got the tweet and mid right. Wow! Just wow. The Accutron mid also has a dipole option. You get a solid insert covered with grill cloth to block the opening at rear and an open insert covered with grill cloth. You add/remove polyfill for more or less dipole action.

Yes the tweets are offset but speaks are not labeled R or L. A pair of SoundScape 8's in progress.

I found Jim Salk's post about the tweets for you.

"As for the tweeter position, it is for diffraction control. Centering the tweeter would certainly be easier since the same template can be used for both speakers. But it is not ideal.

Keeping the analysis simple, if you center the tweeter, the distance to each side of the cabinet is the same and sound at a specific wavelength will hit both sides at the same time, creating diffraction artifacts in the process (think of turbulence at the edge of a wing). You still get diffraction artifacts if you move the tweeter off center, but those artifacts occur at two different frequencies rather than one and the effect is cut in half. So you get two smaller sets of artifacts rather than a single larger one. The result is response that is a little smoother."

You mean in the speaker post 8047?

IIRC it's called No Rez. It is a damping material developed specifically for loudspeaker applications. It has a thin aluminum sheet sandwiched in the damping material to help keep vibes from making it to the cabinet reducing/eliminating enclosure resonances.

    +1 nice room B Run!

It's just a 12x12 tile, eventually I want to get nice 2'' thick granite blocks that are more like 14x14 but it seems to work just fine for now. Thanks everyone i'm happy with it, just need a new rug to finish it off.

    Default Cham Towers

These are 1000 year old brick temples built by the Cham people, currently an ethnic minority, but once a thriving kingdom, in Central Vietnam. Recently it was discovered that tree sap was used as the binding agent as no mortar was originally used.
