This is how I got to Denver...1,600 miles in 2 days pulling a U-Haul. Here we are outside St. Louis...just one of the "Big Rigs".

Nice car (although I cannot imagine towing a trailer with it!); I had a 2000 ZX-3 5-speed for a decade. Put 188k miles on it and passed it along to our daughter and son-in-law. It's still going, with over 195k on it now; amazing (to me) for a US car.
Yours is a bit newer judging by the 16" wheels.

I still have a 2001 ZX3 (w/16" wheels), and I can't imagine it pulling a trailer either. It still runs & drives like new. However, I test drove a 2012 Focus last weekend, and am totally in awe of it. It is an amazing car for the price. I will likely have one on order soon.

It is my daughter's 2001 5 speed with 100K on the OD. We were going to pull the trailer with an Expedition Sport Trac...but U-haul will not rent you a trailer if you are using ANY Expedition. I was told it goes back to all of the Firestone blowouts and lawsuits. Next best option was to try the Focus or rent a truck. A truck would have cost a lot more to rent, a lot more in gas and airfare back. Focus it was. That was a 5x8 trailer will a 2,000 load capacity...which I'm sure we were close to hitting. It was balanced well and the car had no problem pulling it. Had to downshift a lot on long uphill grades, but we cruised throught MO and KS at 75 to 80 mph with no problems at all. Except for the gas mileage and the view in the rear view mirror I hardly could tell it was there. Gas Mileage took a big hit. It was like pulling a sail. 17 mpg on the way out with the trailer...34 mpg coming back without it.

I also have a 2003 ZX5 with 170K on the OD. The 2012 Focus is definitely on my short list. I'm glad they brought the Euro styling to the US models.

Explorer Sport Trac you mean? Good thing you had the MTX-75 manual. I have one too, and it's overbuilt for the Focus. It was used in cars with much more horsepower and weight, such as the Cougar, Mondeo and Contour SVT. I definitely wouldn't want to pull weight like that for long with the automatic.

My advice is DON'T test drive the 2012 Focus until you're ready to buy. I did and it's such a great car I can't keep my mind off it. As soon as my '01 is sold, I'm placing an order.

    Anyway, it's a cool pic!

The new Focus is nice indeed. I had decided to replace mine last year (after 10 years and almost 180k) so I had to "settle" for the new Fiesta hatchback. It's tiny, but I am digging getting 40-plus mpg average (40.9 right this minute) on a piston engine. Betters Mrs. H's hybrid Escape (admittedly a bigger vehicle, with 4WD) by about 6 mpg. My daughter and son-in-law are still getting good use from the ZX-3 (as I mentioned earlier) and they dig the 34 mpg vs. the 20 or so that my son-in-law's aging Tacoma p/u gets.

"Rojito" last summer before it became a New Hampsha car...

FWIW, my car philosophy is simple - I'd rather drive a cheap car and retire at 55 than drive, say, a Bimmer and work 'til I die. Of course, this'll be null and void if I die pre-55 :-(

You know the new Focus gets nearly the same mileage as the Fiesta. I have several cars on the short list for a new car in the next few months and the Fiesta and Focus are at the top right now. I may end up with the Fiesta as well. I wish they had the 3 door in the US (as they do in Europe) as I really don't need 4 doors anymore.

Oh, man, don't tell me that... :-P

I love the Fiesta,,, it is tiny, though. I am glad it has two rear doors; it's actually not bad in the back. It doesn't have the flat out (pun intended) cargo space of my ol' ZX-3, though; not ideal for carting speakers around, y'know.

    Sorry for the thread derailment!

Yes he is a Peregrine name Jet Worthington. Not so young though...I think he may have been around 8 when this photo was taken a couple of years ago.

I love those birds of prey!!

There's a raptor center just outside of Charleston SC. that rehabilitates injured raptors. It's set up like a zoo and they function off of donations somewhat. Awsome place to see raptors from around the world.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies . I am glad to be a part of a select group that tries to take our auditory and visual senses to a higher level: we EXPERIENCE them.... GOT SDA?...GOT SUNFIRE? ...GOT Maggies?
