Seeking advice....

This is not so much of a technical question as it is, one just looking for opinion.

Ever since I recieved my two Polk Audio RTS2000p's roughly 2 years ago, I have been relativly pleased. Never owning anything near this caliber, I thought of them as the best damn transducers in the stores (ok, by stores I mean Bestbuy and CC).

However, lately the thought of selling these babies has entered my mind. Although I consider them to be excellent speakers, unfortunately it costs way too much to add anything to compliment them. A medium-end Oynkyo TX-SR600 alone cost me $500.00. With my income, thats an incredible amount of cash.. I cannot forsee even completing this Polk system in the near future, until I recieve a real job that can give me that extra spending cash.

This fact, toppled with that of rarely having the chance to pump up these speakers to their full ability. My parents have an accute habit of complaining if I turn them up, unless of course, its songs off of their CDs. And having neighbors who are legally insane (and standing at odds with me) next door pretty much prevents me from turning the bass up high. Its become rather frustrating being able to crank these things only once in awhile.

Despite this though, I am wondering if selling these things off would be a stupid decision, as they are speakers that last a long time ( I have a 10 year warrenty on them). I could live without two lumbering 90 lb beasts, although I want to make sure I wont be kicking myself in the rear later down.

The obsticles I have are this: Where would I sell them. Ebay is nice but I have nothing to ship them in. For a pair of these two *no cosmetic damage, perfect sound, broken in, etc*.....I am wondering what a good asking price would be if I decided to put an add in the paper.

Im hoping someone here can somewhat hop in my shoes and tell me what they would do in my position. This is rather pathetic, I know....but hey... its worth consulting the experts who might have been there themselves!

I am far from an expert, but IMO buy a good quality headphone and when you need to rock use them. One day you will be able to use the speakers the way you want to! Just MO?

Headphones eh? Interesting possible solution. Do you know of any area where I would demo a good pair of headphones. The only place I have demoed headphones was at a Bose outlet...need I say more? lol I currently own a pair of KOSS with a life-time warranty.

Juice, replacement is the big question. Most of the money, if not all, would go towards this one trip I have planned out at the beginning of next year, its very spendy...

I am one who either wants bottom of the line, or next to top of the line. These Polks are in-between, and I get bothered being in that position. So I thought if simply going for a cheap 6.1 system that sounds decent enough for roughly $200.00 *most likely, KLH*.

In reflection however, I am still undecided. I will see how much these pair average out when sold at places like Audiogon.com

Thank you for the input. Its rather unbelievable how one can become so obessed and compulsive about a hobby. The question of what to do has been on my mind for some time now, but with current reflects, I feel like a complete fool.

Lets face the facts, most of us do not have the luxary of owning the our own personal movie theatres with all the amps and high powered speakers would could dream of.

The Polks I have are cutting edge by the typical persons standards. They can deliever in all forms of music, and although they may not come to life like others, they will do for now, and have the capability to knock the socks off of most people. For now I will keep these babies and wait for my financial book to grow. The most difficult part will be to not spend every last paycheck on equipment.

I been thinking about this a little bit actually so Ima throw out my .02......

I don't think that the lad's problems have much to do with his speaks. Chances are his big problems are choice of material and volume control (or lack thereof). I think in this case the former is exacerbated by the latter.

I would suggest that you can enjoy your speaks at normal listening levels, they don't need to be at headpounding levels to be pleasant. Try just turning the volume down a bit and see how that goes.

Headphones? My guess is that you like your music REALLY loud so headphones will just accelerate your hearing loss.

Anyway let me just back up that last post,your hearing will be more important when you get older(like TroyD is),those tones in quality speakers are harder to hear after you build up so much scare tissue.

The source material and what-not seem to be just fine. Although I sometimes get in the mood to pound out every living soul out of the house, that rarely happens. Truth be told, Im one of those rare teens who loves audio, but does not blast or abuse the speakers or anyone's hearing *my own included*.

The real conflict has come with, at the listening levels I use and all the factors listed above....are they worth holding on to.

On second thought of headphones, Hmm I probably lost hearing due to pumpin my KOSS loud. I generally use headphones when the house becomes incredibly loud and I wish to hear my tunes without intrusive backround noise.

Akk, decisions..... Because of the over-all quality the Polks offer..compared to any other system for the same price, I may hold on to them. Of course, I got em for free so you cant beat that price! haha

ATC, you may not think there is anything wrong with your choice of music, unfortunately, your parents and neighbors PROBABLY diagree.

Be careful with the headphones, hearing loss is permanent.

Hold on to the speaks, especially if they were free. There is a LOT of stuff that I had in my teens that I wish that I had been smart enough to hold on to.

I say keep 'em. I've got the LSi9 and LSiC in a small apartment, and just listening to them at normal levels I've never gotten a complaint. But I can't wait to get my own house and get some groovin' on (well, the speakers and the women ;))

Depending on the condition, it would be worth 100's if not 1000's of dollars.

An original Optimus Prime unopened can catch 1000's at an auction or collectors meeting. If it's well used and the decals are sratched/worn off - you might get $5. :)

Well they are as good as kept. I recently plugged in some speakers I was going to replace the Polks with, and there simply was no comparison. Because of some of the points you people brought up, and my own thoughts, Ive just decided its best to hold on. Now I feel like an idiot for even contemplating it! haha
