ENCLOSURE SPECS for various polk speakers

I have been searching here and on polk main website without much luck for for specifications on the volume and build of the Polk enclosures. Just the outside measurements won't work. I need specs on volume, thickness of walls, what the cabinets have been tuned to etc.

Has someone taken the painstaking efforts to put together a database of enclosure specs? Reason I'm asking is that I am trying to use the boxes of some speaks that I have (thinking of buying) for some nicer DIY kits.

For example, I have four R15 cabinets. I want to give these to my son for his 18th birthday together with some kits for him to build. I was hoping to not have to build or buy cabinets for some off-the-shelf kits from DIYCable, Madisound etc that I am considering for this project...

I might get my hands on some RTA floorstanders as well and it would be great to know the inside volume and the specs on thickness of fronts and if they are ported/sealed blah blah blah, so I can skim all available kits to see if I can finding matching kits (or close to matching) to these enclosures.

If you have the R15 cabs, measure them. RTA's are 3/4" IIRC, outside dimensions are all you need. The only cabs on vintage Polk with any sort of substantial internal bracing are the large SDA's.

You should reconfigure your ports anyway, unless you plan use the Polk midbass that it was originally tuned for. As far as that tuning, look at the specs for the R15, the port should be tuned near the system resonance.

Heiney and F1Nut, you two must be paranoid protectors of the umrealistic world of "we own it, so you can't use it without paying us, even after you have bought the product we still own you/it and you answer to us".....there is no such thing as propriatory info on these enclosures as long as I have no intentions of reselling them under the Polk brand as a Polk manufactured item, or advertising the technology as my own. Your statements were indeed good for a great laugh though. Thank you.

The SDA technology is patented probably/maybe, but standard speaker cabinets are not protected in any way when we speak of personal use. Show me one document that states this and I will buy you each a chocolate sundae. That is ridiculous to even suggest. Your "Bingo!" remark is childish, ignorant and disrespectful to anyone that has spent their money in purchasing this product and purchased the right to use it in any way they see fit. See the any included user manual and you have your answer. Sorry, but I just couldn't let your comment slide by....

Should your statements have any ounce of foundation, every single thread here on the Polk forum that speaks of modification - using any kind of 3rd party products - to the speakers would have to be removed at once, or else they violate "said" propriatory notion. I really wonder why you are so protective/defensive?

It's proprietary in the sense that Polk doesn't publish or make those types of things public. I thought the answer was obvious in that you yourself could measure and calculate the volume and get all the measurements you needed with a little effort of your own. If you can't do that you have no business modifying or building anything. Good luck with everything because your attitude is going to get you little help, especially from me in the future.

P.s. Anyone can start a thread on modifying Polk products, that doesn't mean Polk is going to always provide/publish the info to complete the project. They are one of THE most helpful compaines I've ever dealt with as far as CS and answering questions.

As per Russmans suggestions, I have now measured and measured and found the exact measurements I need to make a decent xover and place some superb drivers and tweeters in there. Call in a PolkenStein only it will sound a hell of lot better than the original product. But hey Withough the cabinets, most of the cross over parts and the grill and the connectors etc and the bracing and fill material, this DIY would have been way more expensive and as I like the looks of the R15 for simple Monitors, I am very happy with where this is going. Scanspeak and Seas are taking the place or std Polk drivers and a fourth order xover will take care of everything that will attempt to throw my linearity off by 1.5db anywhere.....this will be rulerflat. And we will try to make it transmissionline as well, but that takes a little thinking through on the cabinet. I will honor you others with a picture when all done.

F1Nut, let me recommend the hiking trail at the park about four miles from where you live.....you can take a pretty good hike there, I have heard.

There's a helluva lot more to making a speaker sound good than being ruler flat.

F1nut...you are too funny. You are a spitting image of my wife. Ex wife now that is. She too looked for gloom and doom everywhere she went and didn't see life for all its beauty. Not to mention that humans are not in the least without mistakes. Sometimes things are outside our control too.

As people have probably seen by the link you gave in the last reply, my feedback is very much in excellent shape and most everyone have been very happy with their trades with me. Also here on Polk I have good standing as well.

So your childish finger-pointing says more about your character than it does mine. I hope your fine outlook on life and people don't stay like this forever. Would be a sad life....
