Default Spade connections on H/K 635?

Being the newbie I am, I ordered some AQ Type 8 single bi-wire speaker cables, and had them terminated with spades at the H/K and speaker ends. It appears that the H/K doesn't allow use of spade connections? Am I missing something, or will I have to have the AQ wires re-terminated with banana plugs or use some type of adaptor instead? I'm pretty bummed that I can't give them an audition tonight :(

Looks like I'll be getting new connections from AQ. They'll be easy to switch out, and I'll report back when the switch has been made ;)

I use banana connectors and they work great on my HK 235

I think you can use also spade connectors on the HK. Are the spades too wide for the HK speaker outputs width?

I don't see anyway to fit the spades to the HK output lugs. They only unscrew so far (enough to put bare wire behind the plastic lug), and there is a plastic shield that directs the speaker wire a certain direction. Kinda hard to explain. Maybe the attached picture will show what I'm talking about.

Yep, you are correct, spades won't fit in there. I forgot about the narrow holes (top & bottom) to insert the speaker wire. They work well to guide bare speaker wire but eliminate the spade option.

Are you going to switch to bananas??

My AQ banana adaptors came in today and worked great. I did learn that spades are a very tight fit in the back of my H/K 635. It was so tight, I put electrical tape around the spades to ensure they'd not touch and short out. Terminating the Type 8 cables with banana plugs on the receiver end would have been better in this situation, but I'm thinking about an amp anyways, so the spades should have more clearance in that situation. The Type 8's seem to be a nice upgrade over the 14GA wire I was using-nothing earth shattering, but things are a little clearer and a little more natural sounding? I'm not sure how to really explain it. As an added bonus, they look really nice. :D

I learned the hard way about that shorting out stuff. Looks like you got a good solution. Enjoy.

So did the equipment just shut down into a safety mode or did it fry? :(
