Question How many songs are on your iPod?

Hey everyone, not many people i know are into music as much as i am. So its pointless to try and find someone who has more songs then me, but this is a good place to talk about it. It sounds like there are alot of music enthusiasts within this forum. So basically list the number of songs you have, the kind of iPod you have, and....the name of your favorite playlist...

...or if you hate iPods and the engineering behind them (clickwheel, battery life)..then say it...

    # of songs - 12,089 songs
model - 60 gb color photo
fav. playlist - heavy bass 3

I really like Ipods for some things. For instance I would love to have one for the gym and for some of the stores I work that Im in for 1-2 hours at a time or even when Im mountain biking. For those situations, they are very cool.

However, for critical listening like at home or especially in my car I dont like them because of their inferior sound quality.

But lastly, I dont have one because they effing things are ridiculously expensive! Everytime I come up with an extra $200 there are just too many things I would rather have.

I really enjoy the iPod for traveling (in the hotel room) and on my desktop at work with a cool pair of powered speakers in a telescoping base. Mine has 1800 songs (all blues, BTW) and is the older, 20 gig version. If memory serves me, I gave less than $120 for it new about a year ago.

SQ is not what you think when you hear i-Pod, but it's great for some of the things mentioned. My son has one, my wife has one, I do not. She takes it to work, and plays it through some small stereo. For that it is a great thing to have. I borrow my sons when I go jogging, this is really cool. I wil probably get one later on, and will record the stuff I really like on WAV format.

Actually the ipod sounds damn good on the new alpine headunits. With the BBE it's sounds better than some cd's if you ask me. The highs are much more clear and defined. In other words they are super crisp.

I would say that the i-Pod sounds the same on the new and older Alpine HU's. I would venture to say maybe even better on the ones from a couple of years back as these had more extensive sound tuning capabilities than what Alpine is offering now. I am well aware of what BBE does, and was dissapointed when they started using the Media Xpander thing instead of BBE in their higher end units. My Alpine HU's dating back to 1996 had BBE. One of my Alpine processors also had the BBE function, with the abiltity to adjust both the low end and high end, three different settings for each one.

I know.... :). Too bad my current HU does not have it :(. If Alpine had kept the Bass Engine Pro on their upper end HU's, I would be running a CDA-9857 right now.

I would not trade the Bass Engine Pro for BBE though....

That CDA-9857 I set up for a friend- I did verify that the iPod worked OK by playing several songs from various playlists. It sounded all right, but I put one of my reference CDs in to set up the tone controls and it sounded much better.

The good thing about the '06 Alpines and iPod is that the interface is much faster (if iPod is your thing), and you can access a crapload more playlists than HUs past. The 9857 doesn't require any adaptor or cable at extra charge to plug in your iPod. The 9856 and lower models require you to lay out an additional $30 or so to connect one.

My buddy's music collection on his 60 gig iPod ranges from good to poor sound when played in the car. I'm not a "Mac" guy like he is, but the music he put on there in lossless (.aiff?) format was very close to CD quality. If you have a Mac and/or iPod, the lossless format would be the way to go. I've never tried to use iTunes, so I don't know if it will give you the option of lossless format on a PC.

If Verizon carried that phone I'd have it. I don't like the RAZR (too flimsy feeling to me), and I do like the feel of the SLVR (with the one exception being the smaller keys, but oh well).

I just got upgraded to the LG 8300 and love the thing. I'm waiting to get a 1GB Micro SD Card (tiny bastard) and then might try using the phone as a player.

I don't have an ipod but I've got around 8000 songs on my computer that I cycle through the 1gig sd card in my pocket pc. It's a pain to do that but I don't really listen to it all that much. If I were to get an iPod it would probably be pretty handy to hook up to my 2 ch rig for some good random background music. Probably use it more for watching tv and movies than music... 3.5" screen is much nicer than an ipod screen ;)

I both like and dislike them. They're awesome for having a massive library of music at hand at any time (especially the 60gb video), however they do also promote the whole mp3 'hi-fi' thing. Compressed music just isn't all that great. It can sound pretty decent if done properly, but it still can't touch the actual cd.

I also d on't (yet) have an iPod (mostly due to it being too expensive) but I have about 4800 songs on my computer, most of them being CD rips.

    12,000 is pretty impressive....

Thanks bob, ya i have worked pretty dang hard to reach my goal of 12,000 songs..and i started the same way as you..just ripping CDs..4800 songs is awesome too and thats alot more than many others...i only have 5gb left on the iPod though so i dont think im goin to reach the max 15,000 song mark because Mac rated that # by basing it off of every song being 4 minitues long i think and i have alot of live versions of songs and i have alot of podcasts which some are 30 minutes long...if some people dont belive my 12,089 songs, then if there is a way i will gladly copy and paste my song list and put it on here...

And alot of people here are talking about ipods sound quality...i dont often use my iPod in the car although i have the iTrip which is just used when i dont have a certian song on a CD but i have all of my favorite Cds in my car...but in my case with a massive song library..is there a better mp3 player out there??

And Brett...i also would buy the SLVR if verizon had one because although i like the RAZR (basically just because of the large screen and slim design), it freezes on me alot and shuts off for no reason...does this happen to anyone else??

Ugh. That has the keypad like the Razor's. I like the size and look of the Razor, but like Brett said, it's just too flimsy to suit me. And by flimsy, I mainly mean the feel of the buttons.

i also think the RAZR is flimsy, and i mean because it is plastic and im pretty sure the casing of the SLVR is a type of metal.

ya my RAZR does freeze on me alot but i think its because i left it in my car once when it was like 70 outside and i guess my car got a little hotter inside the car then when i went to pick up my phone it was turned off....and now it just randomly shuts off on me, not sure why but im goin to take it back to the store.

what is this "lossless format"...and with my songs would it be hard to convert to that format or would it take up more space??
