Default New Setup/ help with power question

i have the following setup so far.

    RTi12
    Csi5
    Fxi5
    PSW505
Denon AVR 1803--needs upgrading i think.
    Denon DVD 1920

Do these speakers, ( all 8 ohms) need more power than a new DENON AVR can provide and if so , how much is adequate, i.e. minimum to not be dissapointed or need upgrading again too soon ( i know as much as possible).
Also there is a ton of amplifiers out on the market today , i.e. earthquake versus say outlaw?

wiring question also what is the best way wire say subwoofer, pre amp out to sub or speaker out to sub to speaker.

also i read that cables need to be better than radio shack type ,can you tell me what is adequate in this category also .

    Thanks for the help

also like others here, i currently have the center speaker set to small and the RTi12's to large, should i set the RTi12's to small also?

and last i have a PSW -10 sub also should i add this or will this just take away from this set up.

oh yea-- the room is 18 foot wide and 25 foot long

thanks for any help or suggestions

    Welcome to Club Polk,

Yes your speakers will perform better if they have more power. I'd say a minmum of 150 wpc+ would make those RTi12's sing like a bird. So get an external 2 or 5 channel amp.

Wire your subwoofer from your pre amp out via RCA cable.

Yes, look for cables better than Radio Shack ones. there are to many to even begin listing them all here.

You may need to play around with the settings for your center channel speaker. sometimes it sounds better in large and other times small. YOur fronts being large.. should be set to large IMHO.

It's always a good idea to include a subwoofer into a home theater system. Place it in a corner of the room and set the volume on the rear of it to about 10 or 11 O'clock position and see how it sounds.

the best way to really get the most out all your speakers is to calibrate them.. using a sound level meter from Radio Shack.. it will give you accurate speaker settings... and will sound much better.

As DB mentioned, you will need an external amp, to appreciate the speakers. Once you have that amp you'll be as happy as a pig in mud.

    Default set up

    thanks for the input,
by the way, i do have a PSW505 sub, but question is i have the little PSW10 or whatever the model number is, and thus should i connect both subs up , i.e. will this help or would the much smaller PSW10 take away from the quality of sound?? Also if i do hook it up , how does one hook it up if the other PSW505 larger sub is taking the only pre amp output connections?

    thanks again for your help.

I suggest looking at www.catcables.com - great quality for the $$ in cables. For the sub, just use the PSW505. I am not familiar with that sub but if it has line outs you can daisy chain your PSW10 to if you want to use both subs - but really, the 505 will be enough.

Yes, don't bother with the psw10. Whenever you use two subs, you have to be very careful with placement as the sound waves can actually cancel each other out depending on their relative positions to each other, and you could end up with less volume not more. Certainly not worth the hassel to try and use the psw10.
