    Default Carver c1 pre

    I have a chance to buy a c1 preamp locally,I dont need it but I may buy it anyway.Can anybody tell me anything about it,is it a tube pre?What is sonic holography?

    SS, not tube. Never heard it myself, but is supposed to be similar to Polk SDA, i.e. crosstalk cancelling.

    I like'm. Nice warm character. Sonic Holography is very simlar to SDA, albeit a smaller sweet spot.

    The C1 also has a decent phono stage if you are into vinyl.

    Sonic Holography runs full frequency. Polk discovered better results could be had by limiting the crosstalk cancellation to a smaller mid band frequency range.

    I wish I had a smaller mid band and a tighter back band!!!

    Nothing wrong with the Carver per say, as long as the price is right, I heard one only once and really cant add anything except to say I like my Polk SDA's.
