The Polk dealer I went to in WA had some 10s and 12s on display as well as some stock. The place was being renovated when I was there, and the salesman had to hunt before finding they were all sold, displays included.
They are supposed to be pretty great sounding, though. These guys have done some installs with twin SR subs already (and say they get pretty loud, too).
If I can hear one first, I'd consider tossing my 10" for an SR 12. Ideally, they'll have a 12DVC in a sealed box I can try out in the car next time I'm in there.

The sad thing is I've had 2 for a while and haven't been able to do anything with them because I haven't done the amp install blah blah blah.......
Some day.......

the dealer down here got a few in i saw about a month ago. theyre massive and look amazing. if i had an income right now i would definitely have those and the sr6500s. the guy basically sells them wholesale.
they are for sale on cardomain for 350 a piece. the 10s are 300.

i found 2 sr12's for 555 that i might just buy.. still trying to decide.
System in construction.. :)
I was originally going to build the box as a dual sub box with a partition, but decided i wanted to cut it in half.....Originally Posted by MacLeod

Youre not a real car audio dork until youve built your box with using only a jigsaw on the tiny 6' x 6' deck of your apartment! ;)

I have one of the DVC 10s sitting in my living room waiting for my enclosure to be finished. If I’m real lucky I’ll be able to test it out this weekend. At 25 pounds I had to add a few extra layers of fiberglass to the front just to make sure it'll be ok, that set me back a few days. I didn't realize it was so heavy compared to the 12" momos I had (the cast aluminum basket ones).
I have 2 of the 12's
What is the face of your box made of that you need to reinforce with extra layers of fiberglass? I'm using 3/4 MDF for the box, and don't anticipate any problems in keeping it supported.
I imagine it was fiberglass the start with, but just wasn't thick enough to support such a substantial sub.

It's all fiberglass, with an MDF ring. I just didn't expect such a heavy sub so I figured I got it all out why not add 2 more layers of fiberglass just to be sure.Originally Posted by brettw22
The enclosure isn't all that big, it just makes the .66 cubic feet of air space polk recomends, but after all the time i'm putting into this i don't need to hit a bump or just be driving down the street and then all of the sudden...crack. I went over kill on my last box, the same here wont hurt :)
I must go now, gotta rewire the back of my car now so I can hook my amps up.

So I guess that since they weigh in at 25 pounds, they would not be too well recieved by a MTX thunder form that is made out of plastic. :D

The MTX Thunderforms are a little tougher than your run of the mill plastic enclosures.
But that doesnt mean Id want to run an SR in one.

The SR's are quite an improvent over the Momo's, or the old db's, for those that were so fond of them. The Momo's are nice subs, for the SR's to poop on.
They'll work in enclosures as small as the current subs (.65 and .85), but you'll get better low end in a larger box (like 1 and 1.25). And they kick ass in ported boxes, but be prepared to give up even more space.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to use a 1" (or thicker) baffle to mount them to, they're quite a bit heavier than any woofer we've ever had.
They're a couple inches deeper than our other subs, so they wouldn't likely fit to test the theory...Originally Posted by hrdhtdvr

Are there any similar products from competitors (that we might be more familiar with) that the SRs compare to in sound, yet also "poop on"?
I see that these have a fairly high rms power rating (700 watts continuous), so do you think they'll need all of that rated wattage to sound their best? I just upgraded my sub amplifier (but it's only 600 rms) and would hate to have to upgrade again right away should I get an SR124 DVC.
-------------------------------------------------------
Polk Audio is all about SQ so I would assume their top of the line subs will be as well.
Id also be willing to bet that 600 watts would be ok.
As far as competitors, they designed them to match up to the W6, which is one of the best SQ subs ever so that could give you some idea on what theyre like.
