NSD Driver Install... PICS!

OK so i recieved my new NSD driver to replace my ISD in my SVS20-39 PCi.

Heres some pics and of the install...

1 and 2. Bottom ready to come off.

3. Old ISD driver ready to come out.

4 and 5. ISD (left) and NSD (right) driver comparison.

6. ISD driver out, Inside of SVS 20-39 PCi.

7. Newly Crimped on connectors, supplied by SVS to connect to NSD, the NSD has a differnt style of binding posts.

8. NSD installed and ready to go.


I had to adjust the reciever down 1.0 decibel in the LFE channel. I guess the NSD driver is slightly more efficient. Otherwise havent gotten to do much serious listening yet. Good stuff though! Thanks SVS!!!

i don't have an SVS anymore. but what is the reason a person would purchase the upgraded driver? just curious is all.

Cool! My 20-39 PCi was built April 06, so it has the NSD already but I'd be interested in hearing how it compares to the old ISD. Congrats!

Are the surrounds on the NSD foam? They look almost like Polk butyl rubber. Congrats!

I ordered mine a day or so after the offer was posted. I'm expecting mine anyday now. I'm interested to hear your impressions.:)

The NSD is butyl like the Polk's. Is the ISD foam-it looks like it from the pics.

That would be correct! The ISD is foam, while NSD is not.

ok. great. that's one thing i wasn't used to when i had the 20-39PCi. the mid bass was lacking. plenty of low end deep bass.. but the mid was hardly there.

Although I can't compare my current subwoofer to an SVS, i now know what mid bass and low end bass is suppose to sound like.

ok, I don't like screwing around with things I don't know a lot about. I have the 25-31 pci from last year....if I order the new NSD driver, is it really as easy as it looks to replace?

it looks like all you did was remove some screws to get to the old driver and remove more screws to take the old driver out...then replacing new driver and connect to amp..

that's it?...no soldering, no tough to reach screws or special tools required?

seems like only a crimp-tool and screwdriver are needed.

Its SUPER easy... all you need is a wire crimp and screwdriver... so easy. Only thing you have to do carefully is stick on this rubber stuff (which they give you, and it has notches to fit them interlocking) around the edge of teh woofer to seal it before you screw it in. I forgot to take pics of that but its fool proof as well.

That would be correct! The ISD is foam, while NSD is not.

This is cool! Foam doesn't stand up to the test of time.

For you ISD owners not willing to upgrade.

The foam on your ISD drivers will last a good 50+ years. It has UV protection and not to mention is it incredibly thick and rigid. It is NOT the cheap foam of the past.

Yup, my wife did it all by herself. Her first impression was that the bass is cleaner - not as muddy (her words & I agree). I think it has more mid bass than the ISD and I think it plays a little louder. I still don't consider it a "musical" subwoofer though. HT only ;)

Is it just me or does the cast frame on the ISD woofer look to be of much higher quality? Anyhow I guess it's the sound that counts and I'm glad you like the NSD better.

Renewal of warranty for three years was worth the upgrade price even if you decided not to use the speaker.

looks like a beefier driver just from looking at it. If I had an SVS, I'd upgrade just based on that alone. :)

The magnet actually looks smaller and it looks like a stamped steel basket instead of the cast aluminum.. is this true? if so looks like they cut cost on the new one
