RTi6 or RTi4?

I went to Tweeter and auditioned the 6 & 4...couldn't actually tell too much of a difference.

I mainly (over 90% of the time) use my HT setup for movies and not music.

Here is the rest of my setup:

Receiver: Denon AVR-1706
Center: Polk Audio CSi3
Surrounds: Polk Audio LS FX
Subwoofer: Polk Audio PSW303

Should I get the RTi4 or RTi6? And yes, I'd love to get 8's but can't afford it right now. I have other parts of my HT setup I have to put money towards.

First, welcome to the forum.

As for the rti4 vs. rti6, other members had the same question. I don't have them so I can't comment. However, here are some threads that discussed these two speakers:

It depends on the size of your room among other factors. If your room is very small you could get away with the 4's. They are both great speakers and you can't go wrong with either. I own the 6's and love them.

go for the 4s man and dont look back, put the extra change left over into a savings for a svs sub.

My preference would be to over-shoot rather than under-shoot, so I'd go with the 6's.

I ran my starter HT system with six RTi4's, a CSi3 center, and a PSW303 sub for about a year before upgrading. I would have used RTi6 speakers for the fronts if I had enough space. One of my first upgrades was to replace the PSW303 sub with a Velodyne SPL1200R sub. This made a huge improvement in HT as well as music. I think that RTi6 fronts with your existing speakers and a sub upgrade would give you a really nice system while you save for other gear.

I don't think room size is a factor for either speakers when it comes to an a/b comparison. Both are 89 db. sensitive, both go 125 watts max, both have their powerports tuned to 54hz, and both need to be crossed over around the 80hz. marker for maximum effectiveness. On that point alone, buy the 4's. You can save the extra $120 for a good sub.

From someone who's actually listened to both, the 5" woofer is tighter and noticeably more composed than the 6.5" cone in the area of 80hz - 2khz when it comes to music.

But do what you like.

Optical aaharvel is telling you the same exact thing I told you over on the avs forum. This is audiofreak38......LOL!!!! Anyways, I would go with the Rti4's and be done with it. Once again good luck in your decision.:D :D

Welcome to the Club Polk Forums! I owned the 6's and loved them. The 4's are also very nice. I think in this case bigger is better. IMO the 6's present a little larger soundstage and go a little deeper in bass. This is based on my audition of them. I may be biased because I owned the 6's. But I did audition both.

Thanks everyone for your insight. I bought the RTi6's tonight, in black furniture. I got a great deal on them and couldn't pass up. I auditioned both tonight and the RTi6 certainly are way brighter and sound cleaner than the 4's...not sure why, but meh, such is life. :)

Anyway, I brought them home, and one word: WOW! Talk about an amazing sound setup I now have. Thanks again everyone. I even sat here and took pictures of my setup I was so happy!
