I have a couple questions for all you polk fans. first what if any diffrence is there in the sda srs series speakers and other versions, mine are 5-4 inches or so tall 8 mis and 4 tweets and a passive bass driver. it says sda signature refrence system on them only no 1.2 2,3 or other numbers after that. is this the first models of srs series or what? secondly is there a place to buy the interconnect cable? thirdly one speaker on the 8 mids has sawdust attached to the sticky substance on the surface of the speakers. some idiot obviously left the grill cover off while doing some woodworking. is there any way of removing the sawdust without damaging the drivers ? thanks guys

    Welcome to forum snow.

You are in the right place.

Here are a couple tips to get you started:

    1) Take a look at www.polksda.com
    2) Use the "search" feature on forum toolbar towards the top of the screen. There are several options, including the Similar Threads toolbar at the bottom of this page.
    3) Take some tape, and push the sticky side against the driver. This should get most of the sawdust off.

Hopefully others will chime in to help as well.

    Enjoy the speakers
    Tschüss

There are 3 versions of the largest SDA speaker, the SDA SRS, SDA SRS 1.2 and SDA SRS 1.2TL. On the binding post plate you will find the interconnect cable socket. Does it have two slots or a hole and slot? If it's two slots you have the SRS. If it's the hole and slot, then look at one of the tweeters. Does it have twisted wires running out from the dome or does it have a black foam circle around the dome? Twisted wires would make them 1.2's, a black foam circle would make them 1.2TL's.

    2. Depends on which version you have. Blade/Blade, yes. Pin/Blade, no.

    3. Take a clean soft cotton cloth, spray Windex ON the cloth, wipe the cone in a circular motion, repeat until clean.

    4. The search function will fill your days for a week or more with info.

    5. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Club Polk Forums Snow! You've got some great speakers and this is the place to learn all about them.

Like Zach said, use the search funtion and type "SDA Interconnect" You'll find a lot of info about how to build one. One of our members recently completed a book about the SDA's, check out this thread:

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42248

I think he has information there on how to order one.

Anyways tell us how you came about to own a set of these and what kind of system you have.

    Thanks for joining!

thanks for the quick reply. i did do a serch and found some intresting things ... i think im more confused now than before but thats normal for me :D great idea on the sticky tape to remove the sawdust. It appears that if i have the version that uses the pin blade combo interconnect versus blade-blade it is the srs 1.2 model. im hoping that once i find a interconnect cable the sound will improve, even though they sound great now. I assume from what i have read that only half the midranges are working without the cable? if anyone has a cable they would like to part with send me a pm or post a reply. THANKS TO ALL

Snow, if you have the pin/blade all you need to do is run a single 16 guage or larger wire from the pin hole on one speaker to the other pin hole on the other speaker. The blade is just a stabilizer for the connector. A single push type connector pin with a wire crimp end from Radio shack will work fine.

Thanks as far as how i got these i went to a garage sale that said floor standing speakers for sale amongst other things, i seen a pair of old realistic floor standers when i went into the garage and thought oh well, it was worth a shot anyway to come see what they were. i was leaving and on a whim i asked the the gal selling things if those were the only floor standing speakers they had for sale. she to my surprise she said no. the speakers she had listed were actually in the the house and would i like to see them? i of course said please. we went inside and to my astonishment were a pair of the largest speakers i have ever seen they looked to be 6ft tall. i came closer and seen they said polk sda srs on them. i knew then i had to have them. $600.00 2 trips and a strained back later they were safely at home :) I am using a adcom gfa-555 amp to run these at the moment.

No, it means you could have either the 1.2 or 1.2TL. You need to look at the tweeters.

Carl's suggestion for making a cable is solid as you can't buy it any longer.

you can use a rca cable in lieu of the sda cable.
Go to radio shack and ask for a subwoofer interconnect cable.
It's a single shielded rca cable. make sure it's at least 10 feet in length.
Plug into round hole and you're set.

For $600 they should have speakers full of holes, be recovered with stick on vinyl covering like you use in kitchen cabinents and crayon drawings on the grilles. Congrats! You got one hell of a great deal!
