    Exclamation Reeeee-haaaaab!!!

Nice going Mel. And those anti-Semitic comments were an especially nice touch.

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movi...31/gibson.dui/

    Mel's Public Statement immediately following:

"I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologize directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words.

The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God's child, and if I wish to honor my God I have to honor his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.

I'm not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one on one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing.

I have begun an ongoing program of recovery and what I am now realizing is that I cannot do it alone. I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery. Again, I am reaching out to the Jewish community for its help. I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed.

This is not about a film. Nor is it about artistic license. This is about real life and recognizing the consequences hurtful words can have. It's about existing in harmony in a world that seems to have gone mad."

However, this seems to be an EXTREMELY sincere apology, so like his lord and personal Jewish saviour Jesus Christ... I forgive him.

    Thumbs down Yeah right!

He said it & he meant it drunk or not! If the feelings & thoughts weren't there to begin with, the words would not have been forthcoming out of his mouth!

The world is full of bible thumping bigots who go to church every Sunday & hate their fellow man the second that they walk out the door. Whether it's against their faith or not!

This is about trying to do damage control so that he can continue making millions of dollars!

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I guess noone can make a mistake. At least he came out, almost immediately, with his apology. It's not like he NEEDS to ever make another film in his life. The man made huge $$$s from "The Passion". I'm sorry, but I think his apology was/is sincere. One thing you can say about Mel is he is almost always sincere and to the point, whether to his favor or detriment.

    Cathy,

What's wrong with you lately??? You've been very snappy the last few months.

If you say something in a drunken stupor, does it indicate your true feelings and beliefs? I honestly don't know, but it seems to me that anything a drunk person says cannot be taken seriously.

I'm not defending him at all, I'm just trying to get some insight into this issue.

Well you're probably not going to even say something unless you at least mean it a little, else it wouldn't even be in your mind.

Geez Andrew, I'm sure he really gives a **** about YOUR acceptance of his apology.

I love how some of you rail about hypocrisy, when you're BEING a hypocrite by not just letting something like this slide after a man has apologized for his words and actions. As a few above have said, we've all said things we didn't mean, whether in a fit of drunkenness or rage or some other blind emotion. No one can know what was going through his or anyone else's head at the time of their indiscretion, nor can we truly know if this apology is truthful or sincere. But I find it interesting that some of you will immediately write off the apology but immediately accept the hateful diatrabe that spawned it as a representative of character.

Also, I am not by any stretch a religious person, but I'd love to know when believing in God and going to church became a bad thing and started producing such hate-filled sarcastic phrases like "Bible-thumper". In other parts of the world people murder inthe name of their faith, and those of you who are so quick to turn on a devout Christian are the first to defend some much worse person in defense of their culture and beliefs. Get off your high horses.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    oh and another thing..

Mel Gibson had better give a **** what people like me say, because it's people like me that buy the tickets to go see his movies and allow him the residuals on DVD sales.

If he wants to act like Mr. Hump-Hump Cowboy as you obviously suggest he should when it comes to what you thought I was judging him on, fine. He'll just become another loony Hollywood type that the rest of us "normal people" are all too happy to forget... with the exception of the occasional film screening on AMC or "Where Are They Now" tidbit.

I know that actors/musicians/athletes are people too, but I wish they would ALL quit using their celebrity to preach/grandstand about some cause. Just entertain me, that's all I want from you. I don't need to know your politcal, social, sexual, or religious beliefs.

This goes out to all the Bonos, Barbara Streisands, Eddie Vedders, Mel Gibsons, Dixie Chicks, etc, etc of the world.

What is entertainment ? who is to decide what is enteratining ?

I would probably agree with you but last month when I saw Counting Crows in San Diego I had to re-think. Every city the crows play in they conttibute a portion of the reciepts to local charities that priamarily help victims of Domestic violence and other family problems. I respect that and that is part of what entertains me that Adam can be so emotional it occurs to me he is just like me, thinks and wonders about things just like I do.
Towards the end of the show he made a last anouncement. It was his message of how important it is to VOTE. He did not promote one party or one religion just promoted the fact that is what makes us as Americans truly free is the right to vote, so vote. Then they ripped into thier last set.
I was left to think, isn't that what makes Adam and the rest of they guys so ineteresting, and well.... entertaining.
I agree I don't want to be preached to when I go to be entertained, but I also don't think I want to be entertained by a mindless bafoon who has no idea what is going on in the world.. I see him on the news every night. Somewhere there is a middle ground and we should all be able to meet there.

I am a fan of his in a film sense, but I'm not defending him because of that.

I thought you said you were bieng sarcastic in relation to thinking his apology was sincere, hence my railing on you for it. The rest was more aimed at cathy's closed-minded attitude on this subject, and the public's reaction in general that I've heard, outside of this forum.

That's not what I'm talking about. Doing thngs for charity is one thing, but bashing a political figure, the military, or a religion, etc, etc is another. And just mentioning that we all should vote isn't a bad thing either.

Oh and I decide what is entertaining, and don't you forget it damnit!!!;)

There arent words enough to describe how little I care about this (although apparantly I care enough to post on it :D )

So Mel got sh*t faced and mouthed off to a bunch of cops. Whoopee.

Now he's a big time biggot and hates Jews.

Now that crackpot in Iran, THAT is an anti-semite. Mel Gibson getting toasted and talking sh*t about Jews doesnt worry me that much.

Personally, I think this is the media being bored with not having had a good celebrity scandal in a while.

You are right Noel, I have become snippy lately and I don’t like it much either. It seems that lately people have deliberately been setting off touchy debates rather than discussing audio. They are looking to push buttons, so you shouldn’t be surprised that my buttons are also getting pushed. Hence the snippyness.

Even though much has changed for the better on this board, I still see people going out of their way to go after newbies whether deserved or not. It’s gotten real old!

I come to this forum to learn about audio, to help others learn about audio & just to have fun in general. Unfortunately people have been dragging the depressing real world into the forum. If I wanted that, I would watch the news.

I use this board as a distraction & to have fun. Lately, it hasn’t been so much fun! So I’m going to take a break for a while. Hopefully when I come back, people will have put their religious, political, topical, dissention stirring impulses back into their cages where they belong & out of this forum.

    Peace All,
    Cathy

I guess I need to waste a bunch of time so as to list what MY acceptable topics are that the celebs are allowed to preach or grandstand about.

I wasn't referring to OBVIOUSLY justified CAUSES, such as "domestic Violence" or "Rock the Vote".

I know I am a newbee and may be out of place but this is very well said.
I as Cathy described came looking for input and ideas on what to replace my workhorse 10B with.
I did stumble into here and found some people amused by my nickname and stuck around. I enjoy the level of conversation among people that are smart enough to appreciate Polk speakers and what Matt started 20 + years ago.
I also enjoy it and as a newbee I don't look forward to being pounced on but then again on other forums I have seen newbees get spanked but respond in a manner that earns them respect and a place with the regulars. So in a way it's an opportunity to gain respect in the group, not necessarily a reason to leave.
I say this with all due respect to Cathy and understand what your saying but I can't 100% agree.

[QUOTE=ND13] Just entertain me, that's all I want from you. I don't need to know your politcal, social, sexual, or religious beliefs. QUOTE]

We are looking at the same horse from different ends. I took this to mean don't say NOTHING just sing, and I was trying to say I found Adams message about voting very compelling and it contributed to my enjoyment of the show, that was all I was trying to say.

I think you are referring to a higher level of political banter or condemation of someones religous views and I understand.

    Im with Noel on this.

These guys and gals in Hippywood are so insulated from the real world that they have lost all perspective.

Their opinions are usualy based solely on emotion and their distorted view of the world.

I look to Hippywood to entertain me with great movies, TV shows and music. If I want political commetary, Ill listen to politicians. Cause theyre not isulated from the real world. :D :p
