Default Paramount to release MI3 on DVD, HD DVD, AND BLU-RAY!

Maybe this will start a trend.

I hope not......I'm not going to be buying a player based on what version of the month is deemed acceptable and then need to be locked into a certain version of disc........

This is great news and I hope this gets a trend started. I plan to pick up the HD-DVD come "Mission Monday".

I read an article the other day and the guy was predicting both formats prolonging the "format war" would cause both of them to fail.

I wish one side would just hurry up and win. I don't think prices will come down significantly until one side dominates the market. After I get a new tv it will be hard for me to resist getting a new dvd player, I've read good things about the toshiba hd-dvd player.

I'm saying that (as was the case for quite a while with the SACD/DVD-A, or whatever, battle) if I buy a Blu-Ray player, and then buy all the Blu-Ray discs, what if a better feature player comes along that's a HD DVD player, and all of a sudden I dont' have a player that has the ability to play both formats......

I think that they should focus, rather than trying to come out with umpteen different formats to complicate things for the consumers.

I'm with Brett. There is absolutely no incentive to get involved at this point. I don't want to start a collection with a format that's going to be dead in a few years.

I still think Blu-Ray dies in the long run. Sony has a poor track record with proprietary equipment, and huge liscensing fees. I just hope there are multi-format players so those that buy in early don't get screwed.

Watching movies in HD, fantastic upscaling of SD-DVDs, plus a very inexpensive buy in (HD-DVD) I must disagree with you.

But then, if every one had that mentality and took that stance no format would win and hi-def dvd could be shelved for years or longer.

I completly understand what your tring to say BUT, I dont belive that the format war should just be decided on the content that is aviliable, it should be based on features, price, and things of that nature not that if I don't buy a Blu-Ray player I won't be able to get starwars in HD. One or the other will win sooner or later but until then the movie companies should just release the movies in all the formats and which ever sells the most let that be the winner and be done with it.

It's all a matter of your financial savvy. I can wait, and there's no rational financial incentive for me to start buying DVDs for a format that might be dead soon. It's pretty much a 50/50 gamble. Glad you can enjoy it, but I know there are a lot of us sitting on the fence in a game where there are no guarantees.

As far as the mentality. The PS3 isn't out yet, which is a huge release to wait for before diving in whole hog.

I can wait for the $100 HD-DVD player from Microsoft for my 360.
