    Default Peter "Lucas" Jackson

This guy is milking this gigantic tit for all it's worth:

I don't begrudge folks for wanting to get the most money they can out a product. I do think it's a little whorish and dicey when you're intentionally witholding stuff so you can scam the fans out of another $50.

The extended editions were great, and they were completely necessary. I just hope Peter Jackson (I know New Line is part of it) doesn't keep doing this every year.

    DVD Features:

    - Available Subtitles: English, Spanish

    - Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1 EX), English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo)

    - Disc 1 will present the Special Extended DVD Edition of the film split into two
parts (on two sides of a DVD-18) at the break point of the initial DVD release. The Theatrical version will also be split into two parts (on two sides of a DVD-18) available through seamless branching.

    - Never-before-seen behind-the-scenes documentary by Costa Botes, the filmmaker director Peter Jackson personally hired (109 minutes)

They can do this all they want, if you don't like it, don't buy it. This guy along with most of Hollywood do this as well, it's nothing new and nothing that will ever change.

Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

    Like I said above.

I know that it's okay, however that doesn't make it right, and no they don't all do it to this extent. Releasing one bare bones version and then a loaded version is cool. They do almost all do that. Releasing a new version year in and year out and enticing people to buy it with little changes to special features is definitely whorish.

No, we don't need to buy it. Yes, he's just being capitalistic. Yes, I think it's a little whorish. Nothing wrong with saying it.

This appears to be killing two birds with one stone.

They had the Extended Editions and Theatrical Editions as two seperate releases which means continued manufacturing for two seperate editions.

They appear to be using the latest technology of seemless branching and DVD-18 to have both versions on one release. Give the packaging a fresh face and some marketing which will probably kickstart sales again.

I have the 4 disc extendeds, so no need to go look at these.

Yeah, I see this all the time with the studios. Nothing new. Capitalism and marketing at it's finest!

    Not going to happen.

And in an unexpected announcement, New Line Home Entertainment revealed they will be sitting out of the HD DVD game for the entirety of 2006. After months of industry speculation, the studio's vp of marketing Matt Lasorsa confirmed that the studio will not be releasing any titles in the format this year, instead waiting to see fourth quarter sales results before announcing any future plans.

"It will be as early in 2007 as possible," Lasorsa said of any New Line HD DVD title announcements, which will initially focus on new releases. "We don't have the depth or breadth of the other studios, so we want to wait until there's more player penetration."

    Seriously!

That would have to be on the grand scale of LOTR to do it any justice. None of this made for TV crap.

I'm waiting for the screen adaption of "The Mist" which is supposedly happening.

Sweet, I wish they'd put Jackson on a project like that. He can get it done that's for sure. LOTRs has been the best movie series released in my life time.

I agree, but i cant think of who could play Roland. Ive been thinking it would be cool to see Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time hit the big screen also, i could see the lead guy Ben from Carnivale playing Rand, whatever his name is. Damn Peter Jackson making me want to see these on film.

The Dark Tower series is phenomenal!!! Leaps and bounds beyond anything else King puts to paper. I would love to see a film adaptation, but the scale of it would be huge.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I think Peter Jackson is a no talent ass clown. The worst form of torture I had yet to endure is sitting through these movies. They are way too long and boring. I personally value a disk for its movie, not the extras. Who gives a crap about an interview with Jackson's third grade teacher.
    King Kong was equally worthless.

Dead/Alive and Bad Taste, however, are a rip roarin' good time...

In fact, I think Dead/Alive is one of the top 3 zombie flicks of all time

(make sure you get the unrated version btw)

You may be right. I don't think they ever come out and say that "death occurs" in between exposure to the infection and the subsequent transformation. But the overall plot, post-apocalyptic surroundings, thousands (or millions of infected) for every individual not infected, etc. etc.
fall perfectly in line with traditional zombie flicks....

    Good point though

It's one of my favorite movies. Seemed like more of a mix of what we think of as zombies as well as an epidemic type movie. I think they did what most zombie flicks don't, which is give a somewhat reasonable explanation for what happens.

In any event -- one of the best music soundtracks out there by GSYBE. They're a very nutty group, but the music is very good, and haunting.

    +1

Especially the music playing during the intro when the main character comes out of his coma and is walking around an empty London. Awesome piece.

It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite groups -- Tortoise. At the time, I was convinced that's who it was. Thanks for clueing me in Demi

So are they experimental instrumental type music?

If so, I'm interested... I'm really into bands like Mogwai, Trans-Am, Mono, and the aforementioned Tortoise. Looks like I'll be heading to Underground Sounds tonight with cash in hand...

They're drifters (or at least they were) who make music. They're from Canada.

If you want something to start off get Godspeed's F#A# (Infinity Symbol) album. Then Godspeed's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

F#A# has the track you like from 28 Days later.

I knew I wasn't crazy... I just read a review of Fists Like Antennas.... and it compared GYBE to Mogwai...

    Hey, I started it. ;)

I think the comparison to Mogwai by the critics is way off (I love Mogwai). This band is much more melodic, and cryptic.

To put it in a better perspective -- Mogwai is damn near the loudest band I have ever seen, and they don't even have a singer. I have seen a ton of bands in my time, and they take the cake on that accord.

GYBE is more quiet than that.
