    Default Usher Anyone?

Is anyone familiar with Usher speakers? What do you think of the SQ? Are they a good value?

Usher makes great speakers. Very transparent, and fast, with excellent detail is how I would describe them. I have heard the 6371 and center myself. Marvda1 I believe has the 6381's, you may want to ask him.

I think they are one of the best bangs for the buck speakers around.

My impressions of the X-719 (monitor) were over-all favorable. The build quality was as solid as you could possibly expect givin its asking price - they also look pretty enough to satisfy most in the looks department.

Sound-wise, I havent really spent enough time with them to give any meaningfull response. When hooked up to some Ayre and Musical Fidelity gear, the sound was very coherent and quick, dare I say it was a little "hi-fi". There was certainly a lot of potential there that I didn't quite get to enjoy in its un-locked form.

Lately? It's nothing new. Still haven't settled on the HT speakers. I'm probably approaching my tenth set by now in about 5 years. Haven't finished yet. This time I plan to get top of the line speakers and call it quits.

In the past I've always settled for a certain pair of speakers primarily because of price and not what I really wanted. For instance, I settled on the the Soliloquy 5.3's at one point, but I really wanted the 6.3's. That's why I'm inquiring about Usher speakers. I don't have a particular model in mind, only that I'm interested in a floorstander that goes fairly deep (at least low 20's). Just window shopping right now beginning with brand names. Eventually I'll narrow it down to what I want. However, the Von Schweikert VR-2 in African Hazelwood is at the top of my wish list.

Whatever happened to your motto, "price dont mean a damn thing"?

It's funny how you swore off budget speakers after seeing the shoddy work on the Athenas you just purchased... sort of brings to the table exactly what kind of shortcuts manufacturers make to meet a pricepoint, huh?

Now you know that you have to spend a certain amount to get to a level where all you have to worry about is your sonic preference, and not have to worry about the overall crapiness of a speaker build... not due to its sonic characteristics and engineering.... but due to its shoddy workmanship and LACK of engineering.

Time to throw that silly motto out the window.

No, not at all. I never meant to imply that cheap speakers like the Athenas are in the same class as higher quality speakers. The motto simply suggests that one should not buy speakers (or virtually anything else) primarily on the basis of price because there are too many other variables to consider.

Price still doesn't mean a damn thing in audio. For instance, I paid the same price for the Buggs as I did for the Athenas and the Buggs were awesome sounding, "audiophile" speakers with exceptional build quality at its price point (hand made, real wood!). I'm sure there are lots of other gems out there with low sticker prices (used), and that's why I'm inquiring about Usher speakers. You never know when you're gonna run across a great deal.

Stay tuned. I just made another purchase yesterday that is consistent with my "silly motto" -- this one is very high end at an insanely low price. Gotta hear it first before I make a formal report.

Buy a good set of speaks and be done with it.Many good bargains on upscale
used speaks to be had,or dealer demo's.I have been all smiles since I found the Legacy Focus 20/20.Very musical, can go deep, real deep,in the bass department, not boomy, very tight.Vocals to die for and can do HT with the best of them.Beautifull finish to boot, looks more like a piece of furniture and thats a plus for the waf factor. For 2-4 thousand clams, the choices are endless for used speaks.Go with the best you can afford and then start on upgrading the source componants. All things being equal, you do get what you pay for...good luck in your search.:)

Is it low in price because it's used? What was the retail on the new guys you got coming?
