LSi9 tweeter height

I had begun to become disillusioned with my LSi9's and couldn't figure out why. They sounded lifeless, quite "veiled." Then one day it dawned on me. The tweeters were below ear level in my listening chair! Stupid me. Even on 27-inch stands, with the tweeter in the middle of the box instead of at the top, they were just too low. I stacked a few Mosaic record boxes on each stand and put the 9's on top of them. Now the "stands" are 31 inches, although I know I have to get real stands of that height now. The difference is sound is quite substantial, of course. Have any of you guys/gals experienced this? What do you have your 9's perched on?

I used to have the 9s. They were perched on 31inch Omnimount stands.

Thanks. In fact, I have been eying Omnimounts. Circuit City carries them, but not in-store, and the shipping is outrageous. I'll find someplace I can actually pick them up at, hopefully. ;)

I had the same epiphany when I got my 33in Sklan Stands, having the 9s tweeter exactly at ear level made a world of difference.

Yes, the height makes a pretty big difference. Another thing you can try is to angle the speakers back a little even on the 27" stands. Get the tweeters to point at your ears. But the the biggest improvement I got with my LSi9 was running them on a tube pre with a VERY neutral tube and connected that to a ss amp. I find the LSi much to warm when powered by equipments that are anything on the warm side of neutral or more.
