Default New THX Intro - Subsonic Bass Buster

The new THX intro reverse frequency sweep has a major peak at 18Hz, as opposed to the original which peaked at around 35Hz.

Of course my PSW350's completely ignored it, as do my interim Advent subs. Anyone have a sub deep/loud enough to really FEEL that part?

    Ah hell, you hadda ask...........

It's the intro with the floating ball that explodes. I'll have to check my collection at home and report back.

It was funny - I heard the new intro and commented that it was weaker in the low bass energy than the previous. Little did I know it packed a wallop at 18 Hz!

    Ron:

Thanks - your Tempest 15" DIY Sono-sub is flat to 22 Hz, right? Can you feel or otherwise perceive this 18Hz peak?

Where did you find out that there was a peak at 18Hz?

    Thumbs up It Kicks A$$.

PM is the only DVD/ movie with that THX trailer that I know about. My PSW1200*oh yeah I can FEEL it*. And a good 6.1 system it even SOUNDS better. A clean roll from the front with a clean loud shatter on the rear surround. Got to love it.
PS3 and HD Front Projection, life is good. Too bad Blu-Ray and the PS3 are already obsolete.....

Here is the link. I was snooping around the SVS News Archives, and I came across it. The exploding ball peaks at around 40 Hz, and it's strong - I've felt that. But the reverse frequency sweep at the end of the THX intro peaks majorly loud at 18Hz - I've never felt that part at all.

In fact as I mentioned, I thought the new reverse sweep kinda sucked compared to the old one in the bass department, because I couldn't hear or feel anything down low - alas it was my subs.

Only the very best subs can play 18Hz loud enough to let you feel it. Let's see what Ron has to say about his DIY Tempest - that beast should do the trick.

Damn, I totally forgot to run this last night. I was so wrapped up in tweaking my system with the new interconnects it skipped my mind. I'll try and remember tonight and report back. I'll put a post-it on my forehead.
